So I'm going to be a test knitter now!

That's right, a local yarn company has offered to pay me to test out their patterns.  OMG!

And they just emailed me out of the blue: they'd been browsing through local people on Ravelry and thought my projects demonstrated good finishing skills and an ability to follow directions.  I got my first assignment on Saturday: a cute tank top.

It won't be much pay, but it'll be enough to cover my own fiber habit, so I am completely satisfied.  Now maybe I can stop bothering with my Etsy shop, lol.

  • Sweet! Are you allowed to post your tester projects here when you're done?

  • I think so.  The instructions explicitly say that I can post things on Ravelry and I don't see how this would be any different.  Although, I don't know if you want to see this first one.  The yarn they sent me is pretty much the worst orange color ever.

  • Ha! I'd do it for the free yarn alone- they pay you, too? What a deal.

Are you allowed to dye the yarn- probably not. :-s

  • Well, I don't get to keep the leftover yarn or the finished project (in this case, not upset about it).  And I'm not allowed to make any modifications to the yarn or the pattern (unless it's to correct a glaring error).  If I were knitting this tank top for me, I would definitely make a few changes, like lowering the neckline and doing waist decreases, but I'm not knitting it for me.  I suppose that's what I'm getting paid for ;)

  • That is really cool! Sounds like you will have great suggestions for them to improve the patterns. :)

  • That's really cool. It's definitely got to be an ego boost to know that they picked you because they think you're amazing.
