I'm feeling especially homesick lately. Not that I don't enjoy my life here, I just wish we were planning on moving back to the States sometime soon (I don't know if that will ever happen - Europe is more likely).
And now DH is away at a conference for a couple nights. Not a big deal (he's only 45 min away) and I've got a ton of work to do for my classes so it's actually a blessing. But it just leaves me to wallow in self pity all the more.
So, rather than do my papers, I am baking terribly unhealthy treats (donut muffins - I already ate three while standing in front of the oven) and have rented guilty pleasure DVDs to watch all evening. I prefer musicals circa 1955, i.e., The King & I, Singin' in the Rain, An American in Paris.... but I threw in Mamma Mia! for good measure.
What do you like to do when you're sick or feeling down?
Re: Feeling crummy coping mechanisms
Oh how I wish I were one of those "take out everything on a 5 mile run or remodeling my kitchen" types of gals. But alas, I am not.
Give me a couch, some Pixar or chick flicks and a carton of cookies n cream ice cream to wallow in.
My Israel Blog!
If I am feeling homesick, I usually call my parents, or my sister. That always seems to help

giggle. I'm going to agree with you again!
Minus the ice cream, plus some crisps and dip and Cadbury's chocolate. Just too freaking cold here for ice cream.
Also, I tend to spend long hours on the phone with my best friend or someone in my family. Honestly, sometimes spending some time on the phone with my mom cures me of homesickness but not for a good reason!
Hope you're feeling better soon, sometimes it can just be a hard day.

I'm sorry you're feeling down.
If it makes you feel any better, we're staying in IT for another 3yrs, so if you guys come here... caffe's on me!
As for coping-- I'm a fan of red wine (don't judge) and we too (H and I) love musicals. For top three available on video, I'd say, "My Fair Lady" (come on, On the Street Where you Live?!), "Oliver", either "Guys and Dolls" or "Sound of Music"
H volunteers-- Singing in the Rain, Sound of Music, Original Producers (he hates the re-make).
Thanks, ladies.
Shekels, pixar would make me feel good too! I already had ice cream today on top of the baked goods...I'm unstoppable.
Traveling, I especially like your idea of talking or writing it out and realizing that it's actually better to be in this situation. That would help.
Pitt & Elisa, funny that you say that because soon after I posted, both my mother AND sister called at the same time to complain about each other. I was talking to one and typing to the other convincing them both they were right! At least it made me feel I'm not missing any of the action!
VABeach, thanks for the movie suggestions. I am definitely going to take you up on that coffee someday. H loves Naples and still hasn't brought me there. I hope we end up in Italy within 3 years, just because that would mean we were settling a bit.
Kelly, now I want tomato soup!
Good one! And dangerous. Thank god I don't have the internet connection or DVD resources for a show marathon. I would never get my papers done! DH would have to come home and shake me back into reality.
