Speaking of wine...

I saw this at the wine monopoly and had to buy it. Cascina Gilli? It's like Gilli C wine! How could I pass that up?!

PS - Has anyone ever tried a Freisa? Knowing nothing about the varietal, it was kind of a shock when I tried my first sip! (It's slightly fizzy)

Re: Speaking of wine...

  • That's awesome.  I don't know about Freisa...
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • It's a bit unusual. A little sweet, but the fizzy thing was completely unexpected! Not bad, though, and I was making Mexican that night, which doesn't pair so well with most wines. It actually held its own.

And I must not have hated it, because it was easily gone in two sittings!

  • I was excited at the Luna di Maggio part (moon of May; H and I got married in May, which typically is 'bad luck'... whatever... so this is nice).

Anyway, haven't tried this specific wine, but the Lambruscos aren't as terrible as they are typically billed in the States.  They're fizzy, but mildly, but insane.  They typically, IMO, pair well with either red-sauced based pastas, pizzas, or mild foods-- aperitifs-- cheeses and thinly sliced hams.

I've also had similarly mid-fizzy whites from the same region (Bologna) and also enjoyed it as well.  We ended up buying a case and drank it quicker than we ever would have planned b/c it paired so well--- anything light-- mild pastas (seafood or cream based), or antipastas.

  • I know nothing about wine--except that I like to drink it and miss it terribly.

If I could make one of these for all my IN winos for Christmas, I'd so do it:

Love this!  I'm totally starting to collect my corks.  If I didn't buy such cheap wine I would totally do something with the labels too.
