HELP me word a surprise party invitation

Hey there :)

So as some of you may know, I am throwing my mom a 50th surprise birthday party.

What are some cute ways to word my invitation? Also, how do I "ask people to bring food", or say something like feel free to bring a dish. lol I don't want people to feel pressured too!! But I think it would help me out A LOT! Thanks everyone!

Re: HELP me word a surprise party invitation

  • I think if you really want people to bring food, you have to be clear that it is a pot luck, not just hint around it.  You could just invite them to a surprise party and when they  rsvp, if people ask if you need help with anything, you could ask them to bring something.  Or contact specific people separately and ask them.

I'm really no help though...I loathe surprise parties and my daughters know that a surprise party and a pot luck together would really not go over well at all.  If I felt that I couldn't provide all of the food for a party, I would just invite fewer guests or not throw a party. ::shrug::

  • I threw a surprise 50th party for my mom this summer. The front of the invites said "shh! It's a surprise!" and inside it said "Please join us for a surprise party to celebrate..."

When people called to RSVP, many asked if they could bring anything and I always said "a side dish." It was a very informal BBQ, so I thought it was okay to request food if they offered.
