I'm in such a quilting rut
I have not one, not two, but three (three!? what was I thinking?) quilts I need to be working on and I just cannot find the motivation to do it. I am making them for my boss and her two daughters out of her late son's clothing. I got stuck on a design for her quilt and then finally got moving. I finished the top at the beginning of the summer and started on the younger daughter's quilt. I had to edit my design because I realized it was too ambitious (read: I have a major case of the lazies). I took a break from that to start quilting the first quilt so I don't end up having to do all the finishing work at the same time. It has been sitting in my machine, with a broken needle in it, for a week. I've had the clothing since Feb 2010.

I have a firm deadline of late Feb 2012, because I am having a baby and this stuff absolutely needs to be done. I just can't find the gumption to actually go and do it. I am working up the will to go upstairs and work on it today. If another damn needle breaks or thread gets shredded again my neighbors might just find my machine on their lawn!

Re: I'm in such a quilting rut
You can do it!!!
It sounds like you're a bit overwhelmed. Maybe you could devote an hour a day to the projects. Set a timer and just work on that project. You'll be done before you know it.
3 quilts is overwhelming for anybody! I have 1 I'm 90% finished with and 2 that are just theoretical at this point (have fabric for 1 but no certain design, and I'm ebaying fabric for another), and that's enough to give me anxiety!
I'd just dedicate time like pp said- who knows, you may end up just getting into the groove and quilting along! I feel like it is such an undertaking to sit down and work on the quilts, but once I'm into it hours and hours can pass and I really enjoy it.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Hopefully you'll get that 2nd trimester energy burst and be able to channel it into quilting.
How are you using the clothing? I'm "working" on something similar for my grandma out of her late husband's work shirts, but they're all plain blue button up shirts (in various stained/worn conditon) and I'm not sure what to do with them.
I have a quilt my great-grandma made for my grandparents and most of it is old shirts and dresses. I'll see if I can dig up a picture and post it.
