frozen breastmilk

dh and i are having a debate.

if frozen breastmilk is thawed and fed to dd in a bottle, but the bottle is not finished, can the milk be put in the fridge and used to make oatmeal?

dh has a habit of making huge bottles and she never finishes them and he just tosses the milk.  as the milk-maker, it is infuriating to me, especially when i've always had a hard time producing much.

Re: frozen breastmilk

  • Thawed BM is good for up to 24 hrs in the fridge.  As long as you are using the milk the same day, it should be fine.

I'd be PO'd if dh or anyone threw away my milk!

  • Tell him that when he can start producing it he gets to decide the "rule" of usage.  Until then you says is the law of the land.

  • I started saving mine in 4-6 ounce increments, so I felt like less was wasted if he didn't finish it.

BM was a very touchy subject in our house - DH learned quick that it was liquid gold to me, so he'd better treat it as such!

  • Can he not fill it up less, then if the baby needs more, add more?  My DH was only allowed 3-4 oz at one time.  But then again my LO's average was about 4 ozs, even at 10-12 months.  If there was some left over I did use it in oatmeal or in pureed foods.

eta: oh and i do freeze in cubes.  i had a 3oz bottle made and he thought she needed more so he thawed a bit more and then had a bunch left over.  argh!
