Anyone find this site useful when buying/owning a home? I'm trying to decide if I want to pay for a year of the service and be able to use it if we need it or search elsewhere for a contractor. Thanks!

Everyone welcome.
We are new to this area so we used it to find an electrician and a locksmith. We were happy with both choices.
ETA: It also has a very cheap membership ($8 or $9 a year?) so I feel like it pays for itself the first time you use it.

My area membership is $39. That's why I was asking...if it was only $8-9 I'd do it in a heartbeat.
We needed an inspector so I bought a one-month Angie's List membership to find him. It was around $5, I think? He had a lot of good reviews, and even gave us a small discount for finding him via Angie's List. We were really pleased with his services.
Heads-up, the membership doesn't expire after the month is up. It automatically renews and re-charges your credit card for another month, unless you manually opt out.
Before my month-long membership was up, I spent some time researching every kind of vendor I thought we might need once we close on the house (plumbers, electricians, driveway repair, etc.) and copied down several of the highest-rated local vendors from each category into a Word document. Then I canceled my membership. So if we need someone in the future then we have a resource. And even if I have to buy another membership down the road, it's not a huge deal because it's pretty cheap.
This is what I was wondering about. DH and I are looking into getting a cleaning service and since we know no one in the area for recommendations, I was considering Angie's List. Are there limitations to the number of professionals you can search for in a certain period of time? It seems like that would be what most people would do (sign up for 1 month, find everything they want, then cancel) verses having a continuous membership. What really would be the benefits for a continuous membership then?

DH and I signed up for Angie's list when we first bought our house and I LOVE it. I was going to use a landscaper that I saw at a homeshow, really liked the designs and then I looked them up on Angie's list and quickly changed my mind based on what others have said about them.
I've found electricians, plumbers and a handyman on there and have been perfectly happy. You can also find doctors, dentists, medical etc.
Once you sign up you also get the monthly mailer which is kinda useful. We ARE going to renew our membership when it's up.
I did this during one afternoon and probably pulled up the reviews and contact info for maybe 40-50 vendors. It doesn't look like there's a limit on the search function. IDK why there isn't.
But I was really happy with being able to find lots of reviews and I was also pleased with their customer service when I canceled, so I wouldn't be opposed to signing up for another membership in the future if we need it ... maybe this is what they are banking on? A lot of people probably just sign up for the $5 for one month because it's so cheap that it's not really a wasted expense even if you don't really use it. I wouldn't have paid for a yearlong membership if this was their only option. 100 people signing up for $5 for one month only, rather than 10 people signing up for $40/year, is a better deal for them. (ETA: And 100 people telling their friends about the good service is better than just 10 people telling their friends.)
Smart!
To the OP, I WISH I had used this when we owned and was living in the house. $39/month is worth hiring another contractor for $1K to fix what the bad contractor did (which is essentially what happened to us). Our friends in another area use it and they love it. Maybe you can sign up for just one month to give it a try?
