How much did you pay...
...for a home inspection? If you don't mind sharing. Our realtor referred us to an inspector who charges $295. We don't know if that is a good deal or if it's worth looking elsewhere. Thank you!

Around $500, and we live in North Jersey/metro NYC area. We found our inspector on Angie's List.
I would be careful about using an inspector recommended by your realtor. Someone who knows the realtor may be a bit more lenient with the inspection than a neutral third party would be (because the realtors want the sale to go through, and the inspectors want to be referred for more business). I'm not saying you're being scammed or anything, but sometimes you get vendors who want to maintain a good working relationship and "help each other out," KWIM?
Personally, I would find someone on your own, or at least research the hell out of the realtor's guy.

We found ours through our attorney. Attorney didn't know him personally but we weren't really trusting our REA at that point at attorney had another client who had bought in the same general area and used this inspector. DH was then able to find lots of good reviews on Yelp of the guy plus he supplied us with references.
