Where did you get your couch?
We bought two couches (well, a couch and a loveseat) at Ikea a few years ago and loved them - big adult purchase and all. They've held up okay, but we're at a crossroads where we either need to buy new slipcovers and look into having the cushions reconditioned or buy completely new ones. Where did you guys get your furniture from? How long is furniture supposed to last? Obviously these aren't heirloom pieces, but I'm on the fence about which way to go, partially because I think if we replaced them it would be with something of a similar quality.
Re: Where did you get your couch?
I am looking forward to see everyone's suggestions...we have the OLDEST couch ever...it belonged to my parents and they just happened to be re-doing their living room when we moved in together. I am embarrassed to even say how old it is...but I know it was pretty pricey back in the day and has held up quite well, considering and it's a sectional, so it seats a ton of people. However, DH has been not-so-subtly hinting about wanting a new couch and I'm torn between buying some cheap to replace it for now and getting something higher quality that will last. We still rent and I would hate to buy something expensive we won't like in a few years, when we hope to have a house.
I've been to a bunch of the furniture stores in South Portland shopping for stuff for the inn, but I'm not sure who has the nicer stuff and who just charges too much
I got ours at a tent sale Northern Mattress and Furniture was having about 6 years ago. I was all hot and bothered about it because I wanted to get rid of the "kryptonite couch" (which DH bought from his ex-gf for $20 when we moved in together, who knows how old it is/was). I paid $300 for it brand new and it has a queen size sleeper in it. It's not super comfortable but it does the deed....too bad we get to replace it now since the cat decided it was a great place for peeing!
We have purchased a few items from Bob's in SoPo and we got our recliner at Marden's. We have had good luck with both of those places.
