Bake/cook/eat anything good this weekend?
Why not add "eat anything good" to this post, since really, I just enjoy talking about food. So, did you bake, cook or eat anything spectacular this weekend?
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

Re: Bake/cook/eat anything good this weekend?
I support the addition! I did actually cook this weekend. I made enchiladas tonight:
and this is a beverage but I made iced blended mochas, too:

I made Passanie-recommended upside down plum cake and it was heavenly. Probably one of my favorite cakes of all time. There's only a slice and a half left after guests gobbled it up and we had seconds last night... I think it would work well with other fruit too, which I plan to try in the fall.
I'm on a quest for crispier waffles so I also made Smitten Kitchen's buttermilk waffles for breakfast on Monday (she says they're crispy). I like their flavor, and they taste a little richer than my normal recipe. But I didn't get the crispness I was looking for...
I didn't want to leave them in the waffle iron any longer because they were definitely done cooking and I didn't want them bone-dry. I did keep them for a few minutes in a warm oven while i made the next batch but that didn't seem to affect the texture too much - they didn't come out of the waffle iron very crispy either. If anyone has another recipe that they think fits the bill, I would LOVE to give it a try. Otherwise, I might have to try a different waffle iron?? Maybe thinner waffles = crispier waffles?
Friday I made a german chocolate cake from scratch. 3 layers of yummy goodness!
Saturday night we ate at Alexander's. We started with the mixed fry with old bay aioli (yummy...even the fried peppers) and then I had a wedge salad that had the yummiest big chunks of candied bacon and paper thin slices of pear. Next, I had a t-bone steak with grilled lemon and three types of salt (lemon juice on steak? amazingly delicious!) DH had prime rib served with three types of horseradish (regular, miso, and truffle) By the end, we were too full for dessert so we just enjoyed the pina colata cotton candy...not the best of their flavors IMO...Banana's my favorite so far.
Those were the highlights but we sure did eat our way through this weekend.
This was good:
I made dinner for our neighbors (and new parents) Friday night. I tried a new chicken enchilada recipe that turned out to be pretty tasty, and easy.
I also made a peach cobbler/dump cake from Bakerella that really couldn't have been easier, and was super yummy! It's definitely a keeper!

I made breakfast burritos and broccoli casserole for Molly (legaleagels) and got to meet her beautiful 1 month old Harper last Friday.
I made a crustless quiche for breakfasts or lunches
quinoa w/fresh mushrooms and some parm. cheese(I toasted the quinoa ahead of time and it was delish!)

Sourdough bread from scratch. After a week, I think I've finally gotten the hang of it. Which is good because I wouldn't want our poor kitchen to have suffered in vain. Sourdough bread is SOOOOO delicious freshly baked.

women want to hear what they think, in a deeper voice
Yes, please! I've always wanted to make sourdough bread.
