Ignore the crappy quality of the photo... and the mess. I was 19, in college, and had a crappy digital camera when this was taken.
The yellow strips are regular quilting fabric. The four patch blocks are made using fabric from old clothes. I'd say each square in the patch is 4" or so.
It's just an idea.

Aw, look at your cute dorm room!
Thanks for the advice. My main problem is that they're all the same shirts. He wore a uniform, so I have 20-30 plain light blue shirts. I was thinking about piecing something simple and then doing elaborate quilting over it, something similar to whole-cloth. I'm not sure how well that would work, though, and I haven't gathered up my ambition to try it yet.
Could you do half squares?
If you do them big (like 6" or larger), you'll have a quilt top fairly quickly.
Stand up for something you believe in.
Yes, this is the same quilt. It's still sitting in my closet.
I'm trying really hard to get some other projects finished before I try and tackle it. I'm kind of hoping that I start nesting soon and that it makes me want to sew. I'd get so much done. haha.
If all of the shirts are the same color, you could just do regular blocks and, like you said, some fancy quilting.
