My parents are here this weekend (they come once a year so it's always fun to have them visit) so obviously the baby has been the hot topic. We even talked about a girl name that is really growing on me, and if you've seen my previous posts-I have a hard time with girl names!!
Name is Elodie. Apparently it's hugely popular in France (my mom taught french for a long time). Sounds a bit like my name with our last name (same syllables, ends in "dee" sound) and DH even likes it because it is somewhat reminiscent of my middle name, Elaine, which honors my deceased aunt.
Thoughts? My only fear is that she will spend her life saying "no, not Melody, Elodie" but otherwise, I'm kinda loving it. Would go with a shorter middle name, probably one syllable.
Re: added a girl name to our short list-thoughts?
I love different names that you don't hear walking through the aisles at the grocery store, etc.
The teacher in me had to look at it for a second and I thought "I think that's pronounced like Melody" then when I read to the end I realized I was right. So, I think you may be right about people questioning the pronunciation/spelling a lot... but if that doesn't bother you, I think it's a beautiful name!

I like it a lot! I do think the "Melody" confusion is a possibility, but even I have that issue with my name, "No, Bethany, not Stephanie" and my name isn't that uncommon.

Personally, I'm not a fan.
But, its your future child you're naming, not mine
Go with a name you love.

I didn't have trouble pronouncing it either-it is definitely Melody without the M. I just looked it up and it's a top 150-180 name in France and means either white blossom or foreign riches.
Regardless, it is definitely growing on me, maybe Elodie May or something?
I feel like I should specify that I think the name is pretty, but I think it's trendy--I'm a baby name nerd and I see it popping up in a lot of blogs and forums. If you love it then you should totally add it to the top of your list! I love the way it sounds with May or Mae as a middle name.

You really think it's that trendy? I guess I feel like it's a little too unusual to get popular like the current trendy names. Kinda like how Pippa exploded after the royal wedding but I don't think it will really catch on. Maybe that's just me though...
It's not really my style per se, but I think it's pretty and I was able to pronounce it correctly right away. It may be trendy in the cyber realm, but I don't really see it as a name that would start trending to the top of the charts, so I don't think the general public will consider this a trendy name.
I like that it is a solid name with real roots and good possible nicknames. I think it could be suitable for both a little girl and a grown woman as well.
Here's the thing, I've never actually heard the name IRL, just on blogs and forums, so it's only trendy in the blogosphere baby name world, which is pretty small. So, I think you're right about it probably not being as trendy as I'm perceiving it to be. :-)

Our #1 girl name is trendy in the e-world too (Adelyn) and getting more popular IRL but I still only "know" of one other person with that name so it's on our list.
Names are HARD!
