Actually, there are some CD friendly detergents for HE front loaders, HE front loaders are little more difficult to use because they use less water in general but there are work arounds for that too

Just saying, if you want to join the craziness you totally should. Plus fluffy butt is so adorable!
Re: ::Heather::
I was JUST going to post this!
and Heidi I can't believe you are already almost halfway (and I totally agree with your FFFC, I think I'd be ok with finding out but DH doesn't want to)
** butting in ** I'm planning on using my homemade detergent for our CD (well, minus the soap-- so borax, washing soda & oxyclean). I'm not buying special detergent unless we find it doesn't work well. This detergent works well in HE machines too
Really. (Said long and drawn out...) Please post links or info that I can read if you have them or links to your favorite informative CD sites. I was talking with a coworker that CDs with a front loader HE like I have and she was telling me she uses All Free & Clear, but because of the residue left on them she has to strip more often and it was a pain at times to have to do extra washing.
I actually enter every free CD give-a-way that I can b/c I hope if I can win one I can just tell DH we HAVE to try it b/c you know...we got these for free and all.
Then I can build a stash from there.
also if any of you ladies would like me to add you to the Cheapie B/S/T group or the Fluffy Bums society (also where we swap and talk cd's ) on FB let me know!
Magda- just be careful, regular oxyclean isn't recommended on a lot of CD's
Heather after I get my work done (and possibly take a nap) I will look up some cd sites for you
Thanks, Christina. I've looked it up in the past, but there is just so much out there these days that I get overwhelmed and give up.
Here are some links
I ordered my detergent from a CD vendor online. But once we are done it with the box I am going to try Planet because I can buy it from Whole Foods instead of paying the shipping. I "think" Dropps detergent which is CD safe is also for HE machines. Dropps is sold at Target now too.
Pinstripes and Polk-a-dots
Kellys closet
diaper jungle
You could always crunch the numbers for Alexi and I bet he would be on board with the economics of doing it over multiple kids.
Christina I would love the add
Magda if you switch to the baby oxyclean you should be fine for CDs because it is fragrance free. I use it frequently! I also use vinegar in the rinse cycle, it really does help keep things soft!
From what I read, I though you could use that mixture with CDs-- we haven't prepped any of ours yet... but we're mostly using BGs. I read that on the EcoFriendly Blog and a few other places that it was ok to use.
it depends who you talk to
, I use it as a booster sometimes (if I'm stripping) but I don't use it all the time.
Heather-- I know it's a hike but it's worth considering... we took an intro to cloth diaper class at the Diaper Lab in Somerville. It was informative and answered all DH's questions. I think it was $15 or so.
Christina-- I still need to do some more homework I guess... one of the other boards I post on have a ton of CD mamas (the Maine Nest) and they have been my go-to for most of my info.

butting in with no experience with CDs...
If you haven't seen it, there's a CD board. There's a FAQ link at the top right of the green header. They usually recommend the Jillian's Drawers trial. But there are many tricks different people use to deal with top loaders from pouring more water through the detergent compartment, putting a towel in with the load to weigh it down (thus the machine adds more water), or doing a rinse and spin without the spin to make the diaps heavier (again tricking the machine to add more water).
butting out
I'm late but wanted to add my 2cents.
I use Dropps detergent and it is by far my fav. I get it when it is on babysteals.
As for using a front loader HE machine that is what I have been using lately because our washing machine still isn't working right and we don't want to buy a new one until we 100% have to so I do diapers at my moms. I run a rinse cycle first and don't use a spin cycle with that rinse that way the diapers have absorbed all the water and the diapers are so heavy the machine knows to add enough water. I then do my normal cycle with detergent and after that is done I run an extra rinse (high spin this time and then dry as normal.)
Hope that helps a bit.
