Yet another girl name post

We're having such a struggle coming up with a girl name that we can both agree on & love this time around.  DH recently suggested Camille (with Cami/Cammie or Mila as possible nicknames).  The more I think about it, the more it's growing on me, but I'm not 100% sold yet.  I figured I'd ask & see if you ladies had any thoughts or associations that I maybe haven't thought of yet with it?

If it helps, our last name is very French, and we obviously already have a Madeline (pronounced Mad-a-line, not Mad-a-lynn)  Thanks ladies :)

Re: Yet another girl name post

  • I love Camille! I also like Corinne. (Or Corrine?? Don't know how to spell it!)

  • Not the biggest fan of Camille, but the good news is it ain't my kid. :)

It should be something you both equally love, if it has to grow on you ... eh ...

  • I like it, I think it is very elegant! And I love Cammie as a NN.

  • I just suggested that name to Jake the other day! He liked it so it's been added to our short list. If we use that name we will have "Millie" as a nickname. So, obviously I love the name.

ETA: It sounds fabulous with Madeline. Great sibset!

I hear you.  I did like it from the start, but not the same "love at first sight" that we had with Mads' name... for whatever reason, choosing hers was SO easy, there was really no debating/discussion whatsoever!  I think that's what's making choosing this time around so much harder :(

  • I like Camille.

And, I had no idea that your Madeline was Mad-e-LINE, not Mad-e-lynn. Cuuute!

  • Its funny cause the more I think about the name the cuter it gets.  I love the NN Cami, esp with Maddie/Mads whichever you may call Madeline.  I like how its different but not too out there.

This x1000!  I hope you got her a bunch of the Madeline books :):)

I also like Camille.  It's a 'real' as opposed to made up name but not one you hear coming and going.

I am jealous of your French-y last name.  I have one too.........but we don't pronounce it the beautiful French way, we pronounce it the American-Midwest way (I guess) so it's nowhere near as fun!

  • I love camille! Even more so with your last name and with Mads :)
  • I really like it, esp with Cami as a nickname!

It's one I suggested to DH in the beginning, but he didn't like it.

  • I think it sounds great with Madeline!  Good choice!

  • I like it, with the NN Cami. I REALLYlike Cami. I think it's a great sibset with Madeline as well.

I like it with Mads and with your last name, and I love the nn options.

  • I am ehhh about the name Camille but really love the possible nicknames! Go with something you both love!

  • I like Camille, but LOVE Mila.  Mila was on our list of girl names, even though we know we will never have a girl with all the boys in DH's family.

  • Love it! It's on our list too. I think the nn Cami is very cute :)
  • I already posted that I like it but some other French origin names that I love are Amelie, Claire, Elise, Juliette (one of my friends had a little girl named Juliette and they call her Jules), and Margot/Margaux (calling her Maggie).
  • What about just naming her Mila?

Thanks :) Part of why we chose the spelling of Madeline over Madeleine was so that she'd match up with the books & to keep it easy.  Apparently I'm a bad name-researcher though... I had no idea that people pronounced it as "Mad-a-lynn".... I'd always only seen Madelyn/Madelynn before.  The poor girl always gets called that instead when people see her name, so I guess in the end we didn't keep it easy after all!

My last name is fun, but can be a pain to explain to people how to pronounce it, it's so easy to butcher.  I always have to remind my students that "it rhymes with home".  They usually still give up & just call me Mrs. L instead.

  • Thanks for all of the feedback ladies! :)

I love all of these suggestions too.... to be honest, they were all on my original short list!!   Unfortunately, DH vetoed all of them for one reason or another, except for Margot, but we eventually crossed it off our list, because we were afraid "Maddie" & "Maggie" woudl be just a bit too much.  You have great taste!! ;)

What about just naming her Mila?

We thought about that & like Mila, but both really prefer the idea of having a longer full name with nickname possibilities for some reason.... just more our style we're learning :)

I get ya. Most people in our family didn't like Landon because there's no nn... Lanny? Um no. So we call him monkey. Or little butt. Big Smile

I guess as a teacher I just don't like nn because they make it harder for me. 160+ names a year is hard enough. Stick out tongue

I hear you on the teaching part.  I've gotten to the point where I just ask kids the first day of school what they prefer to go by & have just edited my attendance, gradebook, etc to just go by their nicknames if they have them.  So much easeir in the end!

  • Very late to the game but love Camille! The nn of Cami or Mila is adorable and sounds perfect with Madeline:)
