Strep

Help, we can't get rid of strep throat.  My son has been suffering with it for who knows how long now...what are things that have worked for your family to get rid of it...I have cloroxed everything, changed sheets and tooth brushes, antibiotics, dishwashed all dishes and pacifiers.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Strep

  • Hi Cindy!

I really have no advice, just wanted to say hi. And, DID YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOU'RE HAVING?!?!

  • Ugh...sorry chicka!  That stinks.  I know you have cleaned everything.  Maybe it's time for a conversation with the pedi about removing tonsils?  Do they even do that with an almost 2 year old?

    And I won't spoil what she's having even if I know :o)

  • Did you try drinking AppleCider Vinegar? or gargling with that? Sounds nasty but it helps
  • You might talk to your pedi about testing your family to find out if anyone is a strep carrier.  When DD2 came down with the last bout of strep, pedi said if she gets it again very soon, that is our next step since DD1 gets it whenever the wind blows.

The current strain of strep that is circulating is pretty tough. We too have had it 4 times this summer. I was talking with another mom and she had the same experience. We're going back this week to be sure the strep is gone from the last round of amped up antibiotics.Next step is to treat the whole fam.

Our pedi said they very rarely take out tonsils for it and that often someone is a carrier without knowing it. My girls rarely complain so it's hard for me to know if they're totally over it or not.
