Updates!

Hey ladies!  I haven't really been around much, but then it looks like the board has been pretty slow (which makes me sad!) :(  So here's a little update.

1. Still living at home with the parents.  Lots of chances for full time gigs and lots of "oops, almost!" phone calls and e-mails.  We're praying hard for one of M's part time jobs to go full time once his internship is done in October.  So we're trying to stay positive but it gets really tough.

2. We did have a chance to get back on stage and we did "Chicago" which has been on my dream show list for years.  I was Mona and M was AMOS!  And he killed it, I was beyond proud.  For me to get to watch him sing one of the most iconic songs in musical theater was incredible.  The man stole the show.

3. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary during our last week of the show, our wonderful castmates made us treats and a sign. :)

4. I'm still at the ballroom studio, we had our first showcase of the year back in June (which was so fun), I took a 7 week "hiatus" to do "Chicago", now we're gearing up for competition this month and next showcase in October.  SO fun.

5. M developed a big interest in cycling, we bought a Trek from our friend J back in April and he has since logged 1,300 miles and has lost 30 pounds.  SUPER proud of him.  The pics I have up are not the best representations of how much he has lost but all his shirts are too big and we need to get him a new wedding band. :(

6. I'm 98% sure that I am going back to start my masters in speech-language pathology this winter.  As much as I love teaching, I don't think the field wants me as much as I want it and you can only be tunnel-vision on one thing for so long.  It doesn't seem like the happiest place to be lately either, every teacher I know is encouraging me to pursue other paths.

I think that's about it.  I don't have any "little bundle of joy" announcements yet.  As much as we would love that, it's just not the best decision right now, especially not for the kids and that's what is most important.  So hopefully our break comes soon!

Hope everyone else is healthy, happy, and wonderful! :)

  • I've been reading all your FB updates and you have had quite the summer!!

You look awesome in all your pics from Chicago!!!!

I think SLP is a GREAT choice, it will be worth the wait and there are so many opportunities out there, I don't think you will regret it.

I'm going back to school now, for physical therapy assisting.

  • I had no idea you were performers!! Very Cool!   Sounds like things are going good and I think slp would be a great field. Stay positive thinks will go your way soon =0) Great things come to those with patience.

  • Speech Path is a great program, and I almost wish I would that done that from the start of my bachelor's, but I didn't know it even existed then.  I really hope education opens back up again soon; I had to get my master's in early childhood special education in order to be able to find a job.  That is another field that is growing; a lot of places are having to add preschool special needs classrooms, and few people have the proper license.  Good luck!

  • Sounds like a great but busy summer!!!

I am so tempted to give up on the education feild as well. :(  My issue is some days I am completely content just subbing, other times I feel like its not fullfilling enough.

I always see jobs open for a speech language path, so you are probably making a great choice! :)  How long of a program is that?

  • Brandy- Oh yes, we have had QUITE the busy summer!  We're glad we moved back but this is the busiest we have ever been!

Hound- Oh good!  Maybe we can help talk eachother through the process.  I feel like the hardest part of this (besides the usual school stuff) will be getting started!

Jill- Thanks!  For once I was not the cast member with the camera glued to my hand, but thankfully we have TONS of pictures as we were not allowed to professionally video it.  This was our first show in 5 years since The King & I (what a departure) and this was a show I have ALWAYS wanted to do.  So now that this one is checked off the list, I don't quite know what to do with myself!  We were actually contacted by a choreographer who is doing a production of Chicago in Garfield Heights (which is a bit more east in the state) after she came to see our show to see if we wanted to be in her production but we said no.  At first she only had Amos available for M, then she had a last minute spot for me in Cell Block again, but we sort of come as a package deal with shows.  Here's another shot from Cell Block Tango during our last week of rehearsals...I am all the way on the right but still behind bars:

Sparker: I've done theater my whole life, M just started in high school.  We actually grew from friends to a relationship during our spring musical M's senior year.  We were dance partners in "Grease." :)  I think I should be getting some kind of award by now after 3 1/2 years of patience job-wise!  Not just for me, but for M too.

CJ- I'm glad you were able to get a job!  I actually did longterms in preschool this last school year, including in a unit where there were many special needs classrooms.  I've felt equally drawn to the education and medical fields ever since I can remember, and what I like about SLP is that it enables you to take that license down many different tracks, whereas ECE is super limited.  I'm wishing I would've explored my options a bit more before my bachelor program too instead of jumping right into ECE.  I feel attached to that field though and am having trouble letting it go.

MC- It's not that I don't like subbing, it's that 1. It doesn't end up leading anywhere, 2. It's not reliable and consistent enough, especially with M not being FT either, 3. It doesn't pay very well with its inconsistency, which makes it hard for me to budget every month, 4. And yeah sometimes I don't like it at all.  But this program will end up taking me 3 years.  It'll be okay if I can sub and have something regular during the day but I'm questioning if I should maybe ditch the subbing idea and just try to find something else that is FT and consistent...same amount coming in every month.  I hope M can find something full time before then though, because I/we REALLY don't want to wait 3 more years before having kids.
