Speaking of girl names

DH and I are at least a year away from really having to start thinking about baby names, but especially with two of my closest friends pregnant, we've been talking about names more. I love the name Ellie, but not as the legal first name, so I'm always looking for names that could work with that as a nn. I really like Elise, especially since it's SIL middle name, but with my last name, I'm not a fan. The S's blend together too much.

Anyway, my friend suggested Eloise last night. What do you think? I think I like it. The ending sound is more "z" than "s" so it works better with my last name and it doesn't seem to be popular (peaked in 1921 and hasn't been in the top 1000 in the last few years).

Thoughts?

Agree.  I love most of those old classic names.  Very nice.

  • I like it.

I went to college with a girl named Eleanor who went by Ellie.  I loved both of those names.

  • I like Eloise, but I'm a big fan of old fashioned names.  I think I remember MrsEmilyAnn posting about it too.  :)

  • I don't think it's a bad name, just NMS.
  • I like Eloise.  If you like the nn Ellie you can name her Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elise, and so on.
  • I'm all for it....

We are naming our LO Eloise, and nicknamed Ellie

    Yes

ETA: We also considered Elise, our family loved that name, but DH didn't. Our family has not heard Eloise as one of our options, and we will not be telling them the name before she is born.

I don't know why the name came into my mind, but after reading tons of name books, online research, etc. it just came to me when we were driving to Babies R' Us to register.

    Good memory!

I vaguely remember you posting about Eloise now. :)

Elise is definitely my favorite girl name, but I just don't love it with our last name. Maybe I feel better about it when the time comes. Or, maybe I'll have a boy. lol

  • Not a fan of Eloise, just NMS, but it is unique and I like that.

Our MN for a future girl may be Elise... we have Kiera Elizabeth or Kiera Elise on the top of our list. Also Laila Elise or Laila Katherine.
