The other thread is getting long, so I'm just starting a new one.
The sheriff's department confirmed that my grandparents' and parents' house is gone. Of the 30 homes on their street, only 7 are still standing. After the fire a few years ago (they weren't evacuated, but it was close) my grandma packed some things of sentimental value so that if they ever had to evacuate those things wouldn't be lost. I don't know how much else they were able to grab before leaving on Sunday. Since my parents only lived there on weekends, they didn't lose so much stuff, but it is still hard on them. We don't know for sure about my aunt and uncle's house yet. The surveying hasn't gotten that far in at this point.
They are now estimating the affected area is 20 miles x 24 miles, 34,000 acres and 550 homes burned. They have made some progress containing the fire, but are not able to estimate % contained yet. The worst news is that 2 residents (not firefighters) died today.

Oh no! I am keeping your family in my prayers.
Thanks. My grandparents are staying with some friends, and will probably stay there until they are able to rebuild. My sister lives close enough that my parents can stay with her on weekends and be close enough to the church Dad pastors.
My grandparents have lived in that house for close to 15 years - so it's not like it's been my whole life or anything. Still, I've gotten to know their neighborhood pretty well. It's strange to think of it like this. Surreal.

I am so, so sorry Rachel! How devastating. Many prayers for your family and so thankful everyone is safe!
We just got word last night from H's mom that the fire is now about 4 miles from their house/ranch. They have 3 families staying with them currently that have either lost their home or been evacuated. I'm not sure how fast the fire is moving or if they've been able to contain it all, we're just crossing our fingers now that they'll be safe.
