Slow cooker chat- rec your digital or...
I have gotten to a point where I cook with my crock pot enough that I am thinking it's time to upgrade. I currently have a 5 or 6 qt round, manual. I am considering a digitial, but do they make enough of a difference to have a $20 increase in price? Do you have one you would recommend that is easy to use with features you really enjoy?
TIA!
Re: Slow cooker chat- rec your digital or...
I have this model and I do like having the timer since I use the crock pot to cook while I'm at work.

I like it but I'm looking for a new one because my pot is cracked so I have to always cook with a liner or put another dish inside the pot to prevent leaking/burning. I don't know how it got cracked and its the second one I've had this happen to. I don't feel like I'm rough on it but I guess I am? My first one was a wedding gift and fell apart in other ways before it cracked, then I got the one above right after C was born. I've gone through two in 5 years, WTF? I'm thinking about spending the $$ (or asking for christmas) on one that the pot is cast aluminum.
Okay, sorry, my rant was not helpful to your question.
I have this one. I think I paid like $10 on Black Friday a few years ago. I've never had a digital or programmable one, so I don't know if I'm missing something, but this one has worked great for me. I use mine about 3 times a month in the summer and probably 7 times a month in the winter.
i just got the Cuisinart Multicooker:

it's worth the cost for sure
I have an older model of this one and love it:

I love that you can either set it according to high/low and the amount of time (after which it will flip to the warm setting) OR you can set it to flip to warm when it reaches a certain temperature by using the thermometer feature.
I think it's worth it to go digital for the sheer fact that if you are running late or things don't go as planned it'll flip to warm instead of continuing to cook at the higher temperature. Warm can still dry out the food so it's not something I plan for, but continuing on high or low can scorch it so it's a nice feature to have if needed.
This was my first one. I LOVED it because you could set the timer in 30 minute increments.

Only thing that I didnt love was that after about 3 years (i use mine alot, at least once a week or more), the top handle cracked and eventually fell off.
But, if you don't need the timer function, I don't really see why you need a digital one.
Does the outside of it get really hot?
I have a digital Rival brand. It's stainless steel on the outside. The outside gets VERY hot. It does run hotter than the manual other Rival brand I have but having it turn to warm sooner than the recipe calls for has worked fine.
BFP with no treatment!
That's the one I have! I couldn't find it. I guess I didn't look hard enough. I really like the 30 minute increments on the timer, and then it switches itself to warm.
i've only used it once....but i don't think it got any more hot on the outside than the other 2 i've had.
I couldnt find it either, until Kimmer posted hers and it was in the "you may also like" recommendations!
This is the one i'm coveting.
Thanks! I've been coveting that one for a while but haven't been able to convince myself that it's worth the price yet. Maybe if the one I have now breaks...
BFP with no treatment!
I worry that this type has way more features than I need. Even though I can brown in it, will I? Know that I have a life long habit of never really using any of my gadgets to their fullest capability.
i brown a lot before i throw stuff in the crockpot so i knew i'd use it. i also like that i can roast a chicken or something while i'm away.
I pretty much brown everything except boneless/skinless chicken breasts. Still, chances are I can see me still browning in the pan and then putting it in the pot. I'm going to go to WS and look at it, though. I'll have to have it in front of me to envision me working with all those features
I have this one too. Love it. I would never go without a timer again!
