I know there are a couple people on here whose kiddos have some food intolerances and/or allergies, right? I am wondering if my little homeboy is allergic to some food(s). He is having all this diarrhea & a new rash. Just his body, not his face. He has been a little eczema-ball since day 1, but this is different.
We took him off milk (seemed like a potential culprit, and not too hard on him to change) as an elimination of sorts. We also re-washed all his clean clothes in just water. Rash does look mildly improved.
He is headed to his Dr. on Thursday, we love her & trust her opinion. Just thought I would see if anyone else's kids had this kind of trouble before the offending food(s) were identified.
Re: food allergy & rash
I agree with Julie, eczema is a huge red flag for allergies. Evan had eczema from an early age too. Unfortunately we found out about his dairy allergy with an anaphalactic reaction but once he was off dairy, his eczema cleared up really quickly. Now he's able to tolerate some dairy. If he gets too much he has diarrhea and his eczema flares.

Ditto PP. All three of the girls have eczema something terrible. We trialed Peyton on no dairy before trying anything else. All three had MSPI as infants as well. Since we have figured out Peyton's issues, the eczema has nearly completely disappeared on all of the girls.
Hope you figure out what it is quick!
Question: If he winds up being truly allergic (not intolerant) to milk, can he have soy milk/cheese/etc? I will have to look into how much soy a kid is really supposed to be eating re: endocrine activity, etc.
How the eff do I get my kid a balanced diet without any dairy? Argh.
Lastly: How long off the "bad" food before I would see improvement in his bowel situation? He's still having diarrhea though it has slowed down. I recognize this is TMI re: bowels, sorry.
Soy milk and cheese is fine. We do a mixture of soy milk and coconut milk. He was strictly on soy until 18 months though. I HATE how much soy he consumes which is why we are constantly looking for alternatives. He eats coconut or almond milk yogurt. Soy cheese is disgusting and E hates it so we never did that. There's also dairy and soy free cheese. Daiya I think?
I was really worried about E missing out on the good fat in whole milk but we had him eating avocados every day (we've become more lax now) and I have him on a vitamin regimen. I think it helped.
There are lots of foods out there that are dairy free but it takes some getting used to. Evan has been outgrowing his allergy since 15 months. He was strictly no dairy until that point. He accidentally ate some of my goldfish crackers and didnt' react. I called his allergist and we did a follow up in the office. He still reacted to milk and tested positive but his reaction wasn't anaphalactic like before. Now he can have cheese, cottage cheese, small amounts of yogurt and cream cheese but still no milk. He breaks out in a rash, has an eczema flare and some naaaasty diapers.
His allergist is confident he'll outgrow it completely so, for now, we're just taking it one day at a time.
Good luck!

I don't eat dairy and I can find just about anything I want dairy-free. I try to get whatever I can soy-free. There are lots of options for milk. Lately, I've been using almond milk. But, I hear good things about coconut milk and hemp milk.
I don't use a lot of cheese replacements, but I don't mind them. I do find these days that I really only use "cheese" on pizza. More often than not, I just make cheeseless pizza though. You can get rice cheese, if you want to steer clear of soy.
My brother had MSPI as a baby and then issues with dairy as a toddler. Later, he had issues with milk, but was okay with cheese. Now, as far as I know, he's okay with all dairy. I, on the otherhand, find that I have more trouble with dairy as I get older!!
