Tuesday QOTD

Do you wash new clothes before wearing them?

*For the purpose of this question new is defined as purchased from a new clothes retailer/boutique - not thrifted/ 2nd hand.

Re: Tuesday QOTD

  • Sometimes, not religiously though.
Another old nestie with a new name.
  • I don't either. I never really thought about it until this morning when I pulled my new shirt out if the closet.

  • I usually don't. Most of the time I'm too excited to wear them to wait for them to make it through the laundry. I do wash underwear first.
  • Only underwear and bathing suits.

  • Nope. I have never even thought about it before. Although I wash all of Olivia's clothes.

  • For myself, no, for DD yes.

  • Nope. I'm wearing a new shirt today and it's as dirty as the day I bought it. Which hopefully isn't that dirty. I think it was DP who said a while ago that it's a waste not to wear it, bec it'll never be that soft/perfect again. I couldn't agree more!

For moms, is washing baby clothes because they are more prone to infection? At what age is that no longer necessary.

  • No, I don't wash my clothes before wearing it.  DH has always washed all his clothes before wearing it though.  And we do that with DS's clothes no matter what.

Jen, it's more a question of allergic/skin reactions rather than infections from my perspective.  I'm not sure when we'll stop because DS has sensitive skin and has had rashes in the past.

  • Not usually, but I def. wash DS's clothes.

  • I've read that certain chemicals are used when clothes are shipped to stores (from overseas or wherever they are manufactured) in order to prevent bug infestations and DD has very sensitive skin, so I don't want to chance her getting a rash by dressing her in something that has not been washed.

  • As pp mentioned, not for me but yes for Michael. Many times 'sizing' chemicals are still in the clothing and they don't need to absorb whatever they might be until their brains have stopped developing so exponentially.
  • Not mine, but I do wash the kids before they wear them.
