Today's question: If you were to give someone a tour of your hometown, where would you take them first?
You can define "hometown" liberally -- the town where you grew up, DC, or wherever you currently live if you're a displaced Nestie.
Re: QOTD - Wednesday
This is hard! I grew up in this area and there is so much that I would love to take visitors to see.
In DC, I would take them to some of my favorite "hidden" treasures - like the Sewall-Belmont House.
Where I grew up in Montgomery County, I'd probably drive along the few remaining country roads and maybe go to White's Ferry and Poolesville - maybe stopping for some honeycrisp apples at Homestead Farms. I'd also go up to Sugarloaf Mountain, stopping at the winery :-), and hike.
For the area overall, I'd take people to spend the day in Old Town Alexandria, with slight detours into Del Ray for frozen custard.
In my hometown, I'd probably take the person on a driving tour, followed by dinner and drinks at a local bar. Preferably on a Friday - so we could get fried lake perch or walleye.
In DC - we'd come downtown for a monument tour and a White House tour, followed by lunch or dinner in a local restaurant. Probably Ethiopian or Korean. If they had kids, we'd hit up the zoo and Brookside Gardens for a little carousel/train ride.
Uh . . . where did you grow up, exactly? Sounds like we might have been neighbors! I'd vote for taking them to Sugarloaf, too. And now there's the winery as well--perfect for a fall trip.

A tour of my hometown would take approximately 15 minutes. It was also a dry town until very recently, so there aren't even good restaurants to go to. There is a good ice cream place, but it is only open in the summer.
So, I'd take them to Boston. We'd go to the Gardner Museum and maybe the MFA. Do the typically touristy thing of walking some of the Freedom Trail and hitting up Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. Then we'd go to Harvard Square to eat at my favorite Mexican place.
Same here. LOL. Well, maybe 20 minutes.
In my hometown, probably the barrier island beach and then heading into tampa for cubans & garbanzo bean soup at the columbia. really, other than the beach, there's not much exciting to do.
here, definitely a jose andres restaurant and eastern market! in the fall, probably a drive along skyline dr. & wine tasting.

ditto. my hometown is actually the next town over from cep's and i can vouch for the ice cream place. now that most of my family is closer to RI, i'd probably head to providence - RISD art museum, roger williams park zoo, eat somewhere in federal hill (their italian neighborhood), and then head to gregg's for giant slices of cake.
I grew up in South Jersey but my town itself is pretty boring, so I would take them into Philly since we're right over the bridge. First stop: Tony Luke's for a cheesesteak or Chickie's and Pete's for crabfries! My diet always gets put on hold when we go back home. Other notable stops would be Independence Hall or Rittenhouse Square or a Phillies game if you can get your hands on tickets.
**Waves hello to my fellow Jersey Girls!**
I grew up in Norfolk, but my parents moved away when I went to college. It's hard to consider still my hometown since I don't go back there very often and I don't know many people that live there.
But I would probably take them to downtown Norfolk, there are a few things to see there and it is nice to walk around.
Arlington feels like my home since I've lived here for the past 6 years. I would take them to Arlington National Cemetery and then whichever of the monuments that most interested them. I would suggest a few Smithsonians and the White House.

A tour of Toledo - how...dull!
I think one of the first places I took DH (other than out to dinner with my family) was the art museum. It has a decent collection and a really cool glass-blowing studio where you can watch artists at work.
I grew up in Montgomery Village, but I'm old, so it was practically country back then :-) When we first moved there in the early 80s, you could hear cows mooing in the morning from our house.
Those days are long gone, though. I loved the facebook "you know you grew up wherever" meme because it was filled with people who had the same memories of Gaithersburg/MV as I did. It was a great place to be a kid.
I spent a lot of high school skip days at Sugarloaf and in various woodsy locales in the area.
I grew up in Albuquerque, NM so I would start the day with a walk through the Bosque which is along the Rio Grande River. We would stop in Old Town to buy some turquoise jewelry from the Native American Merchants and pick up some naughty chocolates at the Candy Lady (world famous chocolate boobs). Then I would take them on a tram ride up Sandia Peak to watch the sunset and then when we get back to the ground, dinner at Sadie's my favorite New Mexican resteraunt. And if they still have taste buds left, dessert at Flying Star. Ahh home..
If I pick my current neighborhood which is Old Town Alexandria we would take a bike ride down the Mt. Vernon trail. Eat and shop in King Street for lunch and then Del Ray for dinner. This makes me really want visitors!
Stand up for something you believe in.
We'd probably go on a wine tour, or maybe my favorite restaurant for lunch. If it was at night, we'd go to my favorite bar.
There isn't much in my town. lol
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
Oh, this is a good one.
Well, my current town is what I consider "home town." I would take someone to the river, first. It is one of our favorite past times in our own backyard.
The town I was born in in Germany: I took DH first to the place we were staying, the people that lived behind us.
I grew up 30 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. Since there's not much to do in my suburb town, I'd take visitors downtown. First we'd go to the Warhol Museum, then the Mattress Factory (cool installation art). Hit up Primanti Brothers for lunch, do some shopping in Station Square, then ride the incline up to Mt. Washington for an awesome view of the city and to have dinner in one of the fancy restaurants up there. I'd also love to take them on one of the Gateway Clipper boats for a tour up and down the 3 rivers, but that would be a lot to cram into one day!
Planning Bio
I'd go with Chicago.
my favorite spot along the lake and then to my favorite coffee shop.
