irrational pet peeves

so i have 2 things that have been really bugging me lately:

1. over airconditioning.  it is darn near freezing in my office and basically in any public building you go in.  ridiculous.  am i supposed to dress for summer outside and put on a parka when i go indoors.

2. washing the sidewalk.  maybe this is just a dc phenomenon but there are maintenance guys hosing off the sidewalks on my way to work at least 3x weekly.  there was one out yesterday in the rain and a different bldg had someone out today.  we have flash flood warnings- i think your hose has nothing on mother nature.  not to mention the water waste issue.

Re: irrational pet peeves

  • 1. Water on counter tops--especially at work (be it in the restroom, or in a community lounge or kitchen).  It gives me the heebie-jeebies.

    2. Whistlers.  Especially indoors. It makes my blood run cold.  I want to say, "just because that tune is in your head does not mean that it needs to be in mine."

  • Elevators. When the door is closing, then someone sticks a finger in it to stop it, gets on and pushes floor 2. Really? 2nd floor? You couldn't take the stairs or wait for the next elevator? We have only 4 floors and have 4 elevators. The wait is never more than a minute.
  • People who microwave fish in the kitchen at work.

People for whom I get no response to my e-mails, but then I add the line "I will call you today to discuss" and voila, instant reply.

People who don't hold doors open when they can clearly see you are behind them.

A totally empty gym and yet the only other person lifting needs the one weight bench/machine/free weight I'm using.

Along the lines of the above, a totally empty parking lot, but that guy needs the spot right next to me.

I'm cranky, I may think of more...

  • I just thought of another one...non-muted phones when on a conference call.
  • only because this is happening right now and i am so hungry:

people who schedule lunchtime meetings and say "lunch will be served" but make no mention of lunch after the meeting is scheduled. So I am left to wonder, "will I go without lunch today??"

This reminded me of one....people who have an office yet insist on leaving their door open while checking their voicemail/taking phone calls on SPEAKER.

Also, coworkers humming or singing to their music when they are situated in a cube farm.

Finally, pregnant women who are most concerned about their pad line showing in their yoga pants ;P heehee.

This bugs me with toilet stalls.  There are five other stalls, let me pee in peace!

  • Also 1:00 conference calls.  Now you make me eat either really early or really late.  Is there really no other time to meet?  One of my co-workers seems to schedule almost exclusively 1:00 meetings.

Haha, I never schedule between 1-3. I always have "something".  Confused  It's called shoving my face.

  • dominos. we had dominos at my damn lunch meeting.

which is great, because i'm staying late for a volunteer event. we will be serving...pizza.

  • I hate stickiness - sticky hands, sticky tabletop, stepping on a random sticky spot on the floor...I instantly get angry.  Down the shore at my MIL's house I wear my flip-flops constantly, because with all the kids (all 10 of them) there is likely to be remnants of spilled soda, juice, candy, somewhere on her kitchen floor.  eeeew.

I'm practically hugging my coffee today to keep warm. Sad

  • I am wearing a sweater like it is 30 degrees outside.

Another one... when you are on the teeny SEPTA bus and people refuse to move to the back where it is empty and when you go to get up from the inside seat with your big tote bag and all of the other junk you must carry and the person next to you refuses to get up even after you say excuse me 5 times and are clearly trying to exit.  They just turn their body and you are supposed to climb over them with all of your stuff.

People who walk to the train like they have all day.  Uh, some of us do have to go to work at a certain time.
