Yank in England...

Hi there ladies.. wanted to introduce myself.   I am a yank living in Birmingham, England and I like rainbows, unicorns, sunshine, rugby and Cobalt my dog.  My blog is attached which will give you more insight into what I do day to day for now... and my interests

I recently got married and moved over the to UK.. as a common over-achiever I am going somewhat nuts with not having a job yet.  Most of the time I keep it in but everyone once and a while, and a couple bottles of wine later, it comes out worse than Niagra Falls.

We just moved into a new house that needs a ton of work so I will probably be reaching out for help as I am more of a scientists than an artist.

So yeah.. Hi!

Re: Yank in England...

  • Welcome!! There are quite a few of us in England... lots in London and a few in the Midlands!

    Where are you from?

I've lived in London for the past 7 years but grew up in Florida.

  • Originally from NY but lived in Texas and Mass the last few years...  still learning to settle in here.... sometimes the little differences between the cultures drives me crazy!
  • Hi there!  H and I are Texans living in Leeds, England.  Welcome to the board!
  • Welcome, welcome!  You are in luck that we have lots of ladies in England and many people who know a lot about reforms and such.

I'm an American living in Madrid with my Spanish H.  See you around!

Hi! Where in Texas? I grew up outside 20 miles southwest of Houston. I have been living in London for 2 1/2 years now and H joined a year after me. And the culture differences on some things still drive me crazy sometimes... not sure how long until  you get over that. I just try to embrace the change though as I would rather be here than in the States!

  • Anyone who likes rainbows and unicorns is welcome here!

    Good luck with settling in.

We are Canadians living in France.

  • Hi there!

I'm an adopted Texan (Austin) living in Oslo, Norway with my Indian ex-husband and my two Texan cats.

  • Hi and welcome to the board :)

I used to live in Birmingham (5 years) and moved to the US last year when I got married.

Which area are you in? I was living in Moseley. I didn`t like anything much about the city (Moseley was ok), I hope you have a better experience. :)

I think it's more common for others to call us yanks. My Canadian ex-BF used to call me that all the time :) And OP, hi! I'm American and live near Boston with my Ethiopian DH.
  • HI! My DH and I are Americans and we live in London area. We're finally beginning to feel settled here - we're coming up on our 1 year anniversary. It is a hard transition!

  • Thanks for the welcome..

I am originally a New Yorker born and raised and still carry some of the Long Island accent with me along with some of the Texas... basically I am a mess when it comes to talking here...

Brum is OK.. our house is right near the rail which has been good but as I just landed a job we will soon be car shopping and I need to take my driving test...  (I do know Moseley as I play rugby for that club and lived in Selly Park before we closed on the house)

Anyways its good to know there are other people w ho have had to do the crazy uproot everything and move... I got a dog to the UK so if anyone needs advice on how to do that.. I am your girl :)

Where on Long Island?? I lived there from 5-19 years old and I still can't say 'coffee' with any dignity at all.
