Any freelance librarians/researchers out there?
I'm exploring my options for after my daughter is born. It would be difficult (though not impossible) for DH and I to both continue working f/t. My employer is considering my request to go 75% and I'm mildly optimistic. In the meantime I've been looking into freelancing. I worked as a freelance news editor while getting my MLIS. I'd rather not return to that, but I know the market pretty well. I've been working as a corporate researcher for a defense contractor for a few years now but I don't know that market nearly as well. Does anyone work as a contractor in the corporate research field? How's the market? Does most of your work come from your own networking or are there staffing agencies you work with? I'm not in a very large city -- are there telecommuting research work out there? Any info is appreciated. I looked into the AIIP but most of their info requires a membership.
Re: Any freelance librarians/researchers out there?
I don't have experience doing this, but did come across the site flexjobs.com while doing my own job search. There are several fields, and some are total telecommuting, part-time etc.
I think there's a fee to "join" but that's only if you really want to find out more and/or apply for a position. I was able to browse pretty freely without registering/joining.
