Some friends do a wine tasting contest every year and I'm debating on what to bring.
Each person or couple brings a bottle to submit to the contest and then either $10 or another bottle of wine to be the prize. There are 2 categories sweet and semi sweet this year. I can't decide what wine to bring.
Previous years winners for the sweet category have always been a type of Moscato (I think the Barefoot brand has won twice). I don't remember what has won in the semi sweet.
Anyone have a good wine they would suggest? For either or both categories. We can enter with more than 1 bottle we just have to bring an equal number of prizes.
(MI ladies anything from a winery there? We will be heading to the cottage next week and probably hit up St Julians and possibly another winery depending on how long the ILs will be there and be able to watch Brynn. Any suggestions on a wine from there? ETA we will be at the PawPaw location of St Juilian I don't know if there is anything else good in the area.)
I'm also looking for a good appetizer or desert (I'm leaning towards desert at this point) to bring to share. Any suggestions for something good to go with lots of wine?
TIA!

CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
I don't know much about wines, but this sounds like such a fun party!
When I'm out I always just find a Riesling on the wine list and I'm happy! I definitely love the 'Relax' Riesling in the blue bottle.

Can I come to this party?
I am not a big fan of sweet wines. I do love that the barefoot muscato won, since its a $6 bottle of wine! I love my malbecs and pinot niors, but neither fall in that category!
Easy apps, pepper jelly over cream cheese with crackers, mango chutney over cream cheese (mango, jalapeno, red onion w/lime juice and cilantro) any kind of spinach artichoke dip (bread bowl?) desserts, something like cheesecake bites? (so easy to make in a mini muffin pan!)
New Age!
It was $10 at a local wine store. I tried it at a tasting there and immediately bought a bottle. It's sweet and bubbly. Not a typical wine, but so so good!

I like Rieslings, too. I used to be all Moscato all the way, but the Riesling has taken over that spot.
