Hawaii itinerary help

My BFF is getting married next year and wants to honeymoon in Hawaii. Anyone have an awesome itinerary that they loved or at least good hotels and such to look into? TIA

Which islands? Budget?

If she's going to Kauai, she's definitely got to do the Hyatt there. It's INSANE.

I'd say go for an unlimited budget. They're looking to go all out, but I remember reading about everyone's trips and they sounded great, so I figured I'd just send along what you all did.

Well, in my opinion, any time less than 10 days is not worth wasting the time travelling inter-island. I'm a big fan of Maui, because I think it has a lot to do, but it really depends on what kind of a travelling couple they are. If they're in to nightlife, they're better off with Oahu, outdoorsy adventure, the Big Island, rest and relaxation, Kauai and a little of everything for Maui.

We absolutely loved Maui! We stayed at the Hyatt and it was awesome. Our honeymoon was definitely something we "splurged" on but would do it again in a heartbeat.

We did something new everyday. We went on an all day hiking tour, cliff diving, road to Hana, parasailing, snorkeling, day trip to Pearl Harbor and even got some lounging days by the pool.

We went for 10 days and I feel like that was the perfect amount of time.

I think they're setting aside 2 weeks. They definitely like to do things, so any specific companies to go through or things that are a must-do is helpful. She also likes a few days to just lay by the beach and read. I think Hyatt seems to be recommended the most, so I'll lean them that way.

We used our concierge to schedule most things but I remember we went through Hike Maui for the all day hiking and were very happy with our guide and experience. We also had a sunset cruise with Hula Girl which was fantastic.

If she really wants to splurge on Maui, then I recommend either the Grand Wailea or the Ritz Carleton. The Grand has beachfront access, which is awesome, but the Ritz has killer views. They're on opposite ends of the island, so that's something to keep in mind for location.

The Grand also has THE most amazing spa on the islands.

I love Maui Eco Tours for Ocean kayaking & snorkelling. We've done two great hikes (both free) - one up the Waihe'e Ridge Trail, and the other up the Kapalua Trails (behind the Ritz).

Luaus - I like the Old Lahaina one; the food is good, the drinks are plentiful and the dancing is lovely. If they want something with a table to themselves, I recommend the Feast at Lele.

Driving the road to Hana is fun... but make sure you go all the way around the southern tip. Most people turn back after Hana, so the highway clears up congestion wise. The pools there are a lot of fun too - hiking up the O'heo Gulch and swimming in the pools was one of my highlights of the first trip.

Eating: Haili'imale General Store, Roy's, Merriman's, Sansei, Aloha Mixed Plate, Maui Brewing Company (for beer).

Ooh, and if they're really adventurous and don't mind packing some extra stuff, camping overnight in Haleakala is one of the most amazing experiences EVER. The stars are breathtaking.

Swimming at Kahekili beach (north of Black Rock), Slaughterhouse beach, Napili Beach. Snorkelling at Kapalua or Fish Bowl.

Those are my Maui highlights. Let me know if she needs some for the other islands. It's possible to do so much without paying a company to take you around, so you get more freedom and bang for your buck.

I will also add - the condos we stay at on Maui, The Kahana Village, are way nicer inside than any hotel I've been too. Especially #3. Gorgeous.
