What is this pain?

I have been having the worst pelvic / abdominal pain this week.  It comes and goes but it's intense.  It feels kind of like a one-sided contraction in that it wraps back to front but only on one side.  It's starting to freak me out (appendicitis?  ectopic pregnancy? hypochondriac, much?).

Anyway, I got an appt to see my OB/GYN today and just went out to get a pregnancy test b/c I knew that would be the first thing she asked me (negative - fun doing that in the work bathroom, lol).

So, now just some T&P that it's nothing major and that they figure out what the hell it is b/c I can't go on like this everyday!

Re: What is this pain?

  • OMG!!!

You are going to be one of those 'I didn't know I was pregnant' chics aren't you??

That was my fear - lol.  I mean, I lost weight last time so it's not unheard of to not gain weight and I already have a belly - lol

I will be sure to set my dvr to record your episode.  I can't wait to watch it.  I'll really enjoy the part where they explain that your husband is a doctor and he had no idea either.

In all seriousness, I hope it's nothing major!!!

I know and my Docs are at his hospital too and they know I'm his wife, lol.  He was all 'have you been getting your period'.  I was like 'wait, no, is that important......".  I mean, HELLO, if I skipped a period I would have tested and told him.

Then again, every single one of the ladies on that show is all "i got my period the entire time...".

Thankfully I took a test this morning so I was prepared for this afternoon and it was negative.

  • Keep us posted.  I have the same thing and I am 17 days late.  4 tests all said neg.  I cannot get into my OB until next week :(

  • This may sound strange but have you ruled out gas pains?  I get them so bad sometimes that I am doubled over in pain...I have even gone to the ER before for them, before I figured out what they were.  Usually I can get them to go away by laying on my left side for awhile.  Sometimes when they are really bad and that doesnt work, I have to rotate left and right sides and drink a carbonated beverage and it helps move the gas out.  I think I may have passed it down to my poor baby too Sad

My professional recommendation is a nice big fart.

    I hope you feel better.

Well, I wish, but that's not what it is I don't think.  I am not shy when I need to fart I do, and have, and it hasn't done a damn thing, lol.

  • I feel badly that Naylon is worried and in pain and this thread made me laugh so hard.

I have no ideas, but I hope its nothing serious and you feel better.

    It made me laugh too!

  • My thoughts:

    1. Hilarious responses.  I am cracking up...Brooke = HIGHLARIOUS!

    2. Ovarian cyst(s)?  I have had similar pains and my doctor suggested a cyst had ruptured.  Lovely.

    3. Could you be ovulating?  I have major ovulation pains.  There is a medical term for it...mitleschmers or something along those lines. It is very painful, one sided, and some months has me doubled over in pain.

  • I had pain like you're describing two weeks ago when I was sick with the flu and bronchitis. My OB had me go to L&D. They ended up keeping me because I was so sick and my fever was making the babies' hearts race but they never figured out what the pain was from and it went away eventually. Hopefully it's nothing for you too.

Ooh that is a good call. I get really bad ovulation pain, and that is exactly what it feels like. Usually lasts a few days.

  • Oh I think you're all just making fun of me now :P

She ruled out anything urgent (like appendix or something) and likely not simply ovulation pain since it's been going for about a week.  She's sending me for me for a pelvic sonogram.   She didn't seem too concerned, which is good, but probably means they won't find anythign (also good) but I'd like to know what the heck it is.  It hurts!
