Anyone else ever been told there kid has a big head?
Today A's Pedi expressed her concerns. I didn't get the exact measurements (A was screaming her head off and I could barely hold a conversation at the moment), but she said her head measurements are "off the charts" and we should consider taking her to a specialist to have it looked at. She actually wants me to measure DH's head tonight, and call her tomorrow so she can try to determine if DH has a big head, then maybe it's just genetic. When I call her tomorrow I will ask for the specific head measurent she took today.
Anyone else go through this? I feel like she's still young and growing. I'm hoping she just grows into her big head in the next few years and I kind of feel like taking her to a specialist at 18 months is a little premature. But if her Pedi is pushing this then obviously I'll take her sooner than later.

no harm in seeing a specialist and getting an opinion or baseline reading.
i don't have any experience with this - just major concern of the tinyness of Samantha. She's the size of the babies haf her age in daycare. I like to think it's a recessive petite gene. My pedi likes me to pay extra co-pays for weight checks.
My friend went through this, it ended up being nothing. However, I would feel that it is better to be safe than sorry and take her for at least a baseline reading.

its better to go to the doctor and get things checked early on -- its better to find out now if its something or nothing to move ahead the proper way - rather than wait
Kendra's right. I went through exactly this. Our pedi was very concerned about A's head circumfrence growth as compared to the rest of his measurements. His percentile was off the chart for his head but normal for height & weight. We went to see a pediatric neurologist starting at 7 months just to make sure everything was fine, so I wouldn't say going at 18 months is premature at all. My thoughts on everything with kids is - the earlier the better.
Although I was scared out of my mind thinking of all the "what if's" scenarios, I figured it was better to have it checked out and have peace of mind rather than worrying about it any longer. The neurologist monitored his head growth (and even measured ours for a reference point) until he was 15 months and it turned out to be nothing....he's just got a big noggin
I'm sure the same will be true for you, but if your pedi is concerned (and you are) it doesn't hurt to go see a specialist. It will make you feel better.
