Morning!

Holy cow, I think it's been over a year since I was the first morning post :D How are y'all doing today? What's on the agenda?

I'm heading to work in about 15min to prepare for the rocket launch today.  I don't care about what happens today because it's my birthday, ergo, I don't have to :)

QOTD: What's your favorite birthday memory? Which year has been your best so far?

Re: Morning!

  • Happy birthday, WhereInTheWorld!

I'm moving a little slowly this morning.  Last night we had a lovely night out with DH's boss plus his wife and colleague and her parter, but we didn't get home until past 11:00 p.m.  Today is just work and the gym.  I am so glad it is Thursday, I'm tired and I have to work late tomorrow until 10:00 p.m.

QOTD: I don't have a favourite birthday memory.  My sweet 16 was awesome.  My BBF and I had a joint party at a hotel with the pool and everything (November b-days) and we each had three friends spend the night.  In the morning a limo took us home. It was awesome.

As an adult, each year on my card DH writes down all the things I've accomplished in that year and I love that, he tends to remember more things than I do.  It means a lot to me.

  • Mrs. DRJ I love that your husband does that!  Such a sweet tradition.

This morning I'm off to meet with a mommy group.  Yes, my baby's not an outside one yet, but I am hoping to meet more women in my situation and learn from them about their labors, cloth diapering, etc.  It's a natural moms group.

Wish me luck!  I'm nervous as it's all in Spanish and I'm prepared to be the youngest one there by about 5 years at least!

QOTD:  I don't know that I have a favorite birthday memory...My birthday is New Year's Day so it often gets looked over.  The nice thing is that people usually remember to celebrate it in some way at New Year's Eve parties.  Like my first year of holidays with the ILs my MIL made a lovely cake for me that I completely wasn't expecting and brought it out at midnight.  It made me feel very accepted by them and like I really have family here.

  • Thanks, Mrs. DRJ! So sweet what your husband does for you :)

Forgot to answer my own question, lol.  Best year so far would have to be 26 (the one that just passed).  I'm so happy with all of the things that have happened and that I've made happen over the last 365 days.  I'm sure 27 will be even better!

Best birthday party is a tie between the few years we went to the roller skating rink -- I think like pre-10 years old -- and the one where my parents had it at the house, I think I was five, and it was a Little Mermaid theme.  I loved Ariel.  We had a girl who dressed up just like her and had her and all my friends at the house.

  • Happy Birthday, Where in the World!

I'm feeling a bit out of it lately, so hopefully things get back to normal.  After work I'm taking someone to the gym who is interested in starting weightlifting, so this isn't really the time to crap out.

QOTD:  To be honest, I've never really made a big deal of birthdays so I don't really have a favorite memory because it's mostly just another day to me.  Not to say I haven't had some good ones, though.  For my 21st I had just arrived to London and went out with friends.  We got incredibly wasted that night, to the point where we don't remember how people got into pictures with us, how we got home... and I still don't know if I woke up and had peed myself or if that was the half-empty glass of water next to me on the floor.  The hangover was so bad that I was still feeling it when I arrived at St. Andrews hours later the same day and ended up getting sick a few days later.  I then walked around with a half gallon of OJ to various orientation events saying, "I drank myself sick and I'm going to drink myself better!"

My 28th in Turkey was pretty good, too.  I was taking a 2 week language course on the beach and the group surprised me with a cake and some presents.

  • Today was pretty easy, I tore through a book -- only 50 pages left to finish tonight.  Tomorrow is my last free weekday before I start my new job on Monday, so I am torn between wanting to sleep late and relax all day and wanting to get a lot of stuff done.  I do have to fax in my request for an absentee ballot for Louisiana's gubenatorial election, bit other than that it's a quiet weekend round here.

QOTD:  I really don't have a best, so much as I have a worst -- 2005, I evacuated in advance of Hurricane Katrina.  I call that "the worst birthday ever."  Compared to that, none of them have been bad.

  • Happy Birthday WITW!

MrsDRJ, that is such a sweet tradition.

H left this morning for a week business trip. I'm looking forward to doing whatever and eating whatever I want while he is away!

I just finished filling out insurance forms from a flood we had while we were in Canada. Our upstairs neighbours are having work done and they burst a pipe which proceeded to flood our kitchen. H had to deal with a weeks worth of flooding when he got home from holidays. Luckily my horrible vacuum cleaner got damaged and I get to get a new one finally! Yay!

QOTD: I love my birthday. Cinco de Mayo!

This last year was pretty good. H threw me a party at a beach restaurant. So much fun!

  • Happy birthday, WITW!

I'm feeling fairly sluggish this morning, generally tired and a little headachey.  Hopefully breakfast and some tea will solve the problem, but I fear I'm coming down with a cold which would not be fun.

QOTD:  With my birthday in December, I usually ended up having final term projects or exams around my birthday when I was in school, so most of those weren't that great.  I think my favourite recent one was the first year I was with DH (then BF).  He picked me up and took me in a carriage ride through Central Park before going out to a fabulous steak dinner.  Then we went to a joint birthday party with some of my friends at a club.  A lot of fun.

  • Happy birthday WITW!

I'm SO tired today, had a late night out last night and spent the morning nursing an awful hangover and trying to go unnoticed at my desk.  I'm just now starting to feel better.

QOTD: It has to be my 21st, I went to Orlando with my best friend to visit my brother, and while I was there this guy that I sort of liked called me to wish me a happy birthday.  I was so excited that he remembered, and even moreso when I missed the first call, instead of leaving a message he called back to make sure he got to talk to me.  6 years later I married him :)

    Now jumping domestically.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • Happy birthday!! Isn't it like 4 in the morning there?  That's a bit early on your birthday.

My day is almost over.  Aside from getting stuck on the lift, there wasn't really anything out of the ordinary.

QOTD: When I was 11 my parents talked me into going to go cut down a Christmas tree on my birthday.  Pretty much the only reason I agreed to it was because my older brothers didn't want to go and since it was my birthday, I could make them.  Being a controlling brat worked out well for me that day because instead of driving to the middle of nowhere to get a tree we drove to the middle of nowhere to pick up the dog I had been requesting on a weekly basis for the previous 6 years.

  • I love these stories! I think birthdays are awesome and I tend to force everyone to make a big fuss about me on mine. My friends threw me a surprise party when I turned 13 which was super lovely. Actually, maybe my 30th was my favourite, everyone made a huge fuss. I actually took the day off work and took myself out to lunch that day and went for a swanky dinner with DH. When I got back to work the next day, my coworkers had done a collection and got me a ton of presents, it was such a lovely thing to do and totally unexpected!

  • Morning! We have a play group today, after Georgia wakes up from her nap. This afternoon a friend is coming by and (if the weather holds) we'll go on a walk.

My favorite birthday was probably my 16th. My parents planned a surprise party for me, and it was a lot of fun being with all my friends. As far as best year.... maybe this last year - so 25. We moved to England, and I gave birth to my first daughter. It was also stressful, but good.

  • I love all these stories, ladies...I have the biggest smile on my face now! For a few reasons...first, you'll notice I'm back, lol.  My boss remembered -- after everyone said 'Happy Birthday' -- that it was my birthday and that I had previously asked for today off...and I was allowed to leave.  Second (etc.), I'm so excited because I have (a) a full tank of gas, (b) an entire day to do whatever I want, (c) BF is flying home today just for me, (d) the puppy and I get to hang out right now while I plan, (e) it's still so early!, (f) I'm going to go to my fave coffee shop for some breakfast, (g) I GET TO OPEN PRESENTS!

I could go on.  Oh, and my fave part so far: my boss is an idiot.  No exaggeration, he's just an illiterate idiot.  Nice guy, but man oh man.  Anyway, as I'm driving home, he texts me saying that I forgot to do things when I closed last night.  I told him that's impossible and listed off the reasons why.  Then he said that when he was inputting our financials for yesterday, things were missing and that our labor was only at 10% (would've been great but, again, impossible).  So, I told him there's no way unless he was doing the financials for the wrong day because of these reasons, blah blah.  No response.  HA! I win >:)

  • Happy bday WITW! I hope you enjoy your day off :)

I'm going to clean a bit today and then I have no idea lol I have no plans! Maybe packing my suitcase! I'm leaving in one week! Yay! Hopefully the wild fires in texas will be under control before we get there and the weather in NOLA nice. Why can't some of that East coast rain hit TX? They need it!

QOTD:My two best friends have always made a big deal about my bdays. I loved my 21st bday where they through me a party and took me out clubbing (very memorable lol). Also before I went to study abroad in Scotland, my two BFFs organized a nice going away celebration with each corner of the apartment decorated for each holiday we would miss together while I was gone. They had a bday cake,  a mini Christmas tree, V-day, etc. They also gave me my first digital camera so that I would have something to take pictures with while overseas. We also have a bday book that we write to each other for each bday and send it to the person for their bdays. Always fun to read back over previous years!

  • Good morning and happy birthday!  Speaking of birthdays, tonight we are going out to dinner to celebrate DH's birthday.  I can't wait to give him his gift.  Going out for a nice dinner is sort of a let down here though because I can dress up but I have to cover my cute outfit with my abaya and we can have a nice dinner but we can't enjoy a bottle of wine with it.

QOTD:  My favorite birthday memory is my 21st birthday.  I know that's probably silly, but it's the last birthday where I actually looked forward to it.  All three of my sisters came to town where I was going to college and took me out.  Any birthday spent with my family and friends is a good one.

  • Morning!Happy birthday WITW! Awesome that you get the day off.

Today got off to a rocky start as there was travel chaos on my way to work. Delays left and right, and I was nearly late for a conference call I had scheduled this morning. Made it with one minute to spare.

QOTD: I think the best one as an adult was my 25th in NYC. My mom flew up the day before from Florida and surprised me on my doorstep with one of her homemade cakes. I LOVE her cakes. All my friends and roommates were in on it and they all collaborated to make sure I'd be home that night, and my roommates had cleaned the apartment.

The next night we had a small party at the house where we ate cake and then about 30 of us went to the bars (my mom stayed home). Ah, I love NY.

  • Good Afternoon. Happy Birthday WITW, bonus day off!!

I was up at 6 AM making breakfast for H, he is heading off to MI for work for 9 days. After he left I took a little nap, oops!

QOTD: I love my birthday every year. I always make a big deal about it and get all my friends/family together for dinner and either going out after or to someone's house for drinks. I'm hoping my 30th in May will be the best one yet since we should be moving back that month too so hopefully we can combine it with a welcome home party!

  • I know I am a little late with my posts but good morning everyone. I have had a very lovely day. I have a few days off and today I went to the gym, cleaned the house, worked a little at home and am now relaxing.

    Happy Birthday.

I love this posts. My Birthday is in a few days and I am looking forward to doing (hopefully) whatever I want.

My Best Birthday was when I was 30. DH and I went to Mexico. On the day itself the hotel had arranged for us to have dinner at a local restaurant. When we arrived the restaurant had a huge margaritta glass for me waiting. (seriosly about the size of 10 normal glasses put together) There were also other locals and tourist there and one other birthday person. After about an hour the guests started putting all of the tables together in a circle and had a huge dinner. It was the most warming and wonderful birthday dinner/party with people we did not even know. The best ever.

  • Happy Birthday WITW!

I think I'm coming down with a cold.  Been taking Zicam like it's candy though so hopefully that will keep this sucker at bay.  I'm supposed to go down to Atlantic City tomorrow night to see a friend and I don't feel like driving down there so this cold is a perfect excuse.  I just hope I feel better for my date on Saturday with the Engineer :)

QOTD: I've had a lot of good ones in the past.  To me it's a good birthday if it has an activity and cake.

I've had some bad ones too-most notably the birthday I spent sitting shiva for my grandfather-we buried him the day before my birthday and this last one that I spent crying half the day when STBXH wouldn't stop contacting me.  I ended up "canceling" this birthday and getting drunk with a friend.  I still accepted presents and cake though ;)

  • Happy Birthday WITW!

I'm not doing anything the rest of the day. I feel like crap.

QOTD: The best birthday I've ever had was my 22nd. DH came over to see me for the first time the day before my birthday. The actual day, we spent the entire time in bed.

The best year I've had was 2007. Not only did I meet DH in person after 'dating' online for six years, we got married two weeks later.
