  • Ups:  Baby is healthy and kicking all the time!  I still have a lot of energy and am just trying to enjoy pregnancy as I'm starting to get more uncomfortable.

Downs: Apparently baby is measuring pretty big.  My midwife seemed surprised how large she was, but maybe that's just because I don't look too big for 7 months.

QOTD:  No idea yet.  I'm sure I'll say some weird stuff in the future.

  • Quint is adjusting to being home very well.  I think he likes having me around a lot. I like being around him to.  We are having a slight challenge with potty training though.

He is in underwear and pees in the potty but poops in his pants.  We know when he is about to poop because he goes into the closet and hides.  We pull him out of the closet and take him to the toilet where we tell him to poop then he pees and goes, "Yeah, I pooped!"  No.  He peed. So pooping now happens in his underwear.  In the two weeks he's been potty training he's only pooped three times and every time it's been when we're not looking in his underwear.  One time it even happened when husband was playing hide and seek with him so it wasn't like we aren't watching him, he's just a tricky little guy!I think he's really confused as to the difference in pee and poop.  How do we explain the difference?Pull ups aren't an option because if we put pull ups on him, he'll go back to peeing in his diaper. Also, he starts pre-school next week.  It's only three hours a day and he'll probably be so distracted he doesn't poop there but should I put him in a pull up just for pre school so the teachers don't have to deal with nasty underwear?  He does not need to be potty trained to go to pre school but I don't want to regress by putting him in diapers again.

  • Hi ladies.  I feel like I haven't been around in ages!

UPS: Leo is adapting so, so well to having Jax around and I honestly couldn't be more thankful for that.  I had so much fear about them waking each other up and Leo feeling left out but so far so good.  They both sleep through each others screams and Leo loves to help me and is always asking to hold and play with Jax.  I love seeing them together.

DOWNS: Jax is So dang fidgity and he seems to wake himself up a lot.  He's also going through a phase of nothing at all being able to calm him down to just relax so some days around here are friggin' awful and I seriously regret having another kid.  But, then he calms down and smiles and actually sleeps and I love him all over again.

QOTW: Hmmmm.  Oh, I got one lol.  Last night I was getting a shower and Leo came barging in and wanted to get a bath too.  I figured, OK, easier this way and dh had Jax so I put him in there with me.  He usually just plays while I shower.  I am getting washed and we're chatting and I turn to rinse my face off and he poked me in my butt.  I sort of jumped and was like 'WHOA!, don't do that, it's not nice!'.  He giggled and went back to playing with his bath toys.  Man, I miss having alone time in the bathroom lol.

Totziens, this is very normal. When he poops in his pants do you show him the poop? And how do you react when he does poop in his pants comapred to pooping in the potty? With James we would just clean it up, show him what the poop looks like and just remind him that Big boys poop in the potty, baby's poop n their pants, and when he pooped in the potty then he would get a 'Poopy in the potty, poopy in the pot' song (Looks who's tallking movie song) and he would get a big chocolate coin (for wees he got little chocolate coins). Just remember don't get cross about poops in the pants, get excited about poops in the potty. (Have you thought about putting a potty in the closet?

Oh, and I would send him to school in underwear. There are going to be accidents, but it is expected. James pooped in his pants 3 times last week because he was nervous about starting school this week, and on his first day back at school he had a wee in his pants within the first 20 minutes. Accidents are now few and far between, but things like moving house, starting a new school, etc. can cause them to happen.

  • Ups: James' skin is so much better since we changed him from cows milk

Downs: His behaviour is terrible at the moment. DH and I are at our wits ends and are not sure where to go from here. He screams at us, he is rude and demanding and he keep throwing things. We have tried all the usual disciplining methods, but basically he just laughs at us. I know that it is a phase and it will pass, but this is really testing us.

QOTD: Oh, I have so many, but now that I am trying to remember them I am drawing a blank. I will come back to this later.

  • Totziens, have you tried bribery?

I did chocolates, but I know someone that went out and bought a toy for their child. It was something that the child really wanted and put it up high where the child could see it and then did a sticker chart. If the child did x amounts of poops in teh potty then they could have the toy.

YES!  We gave him one M&M when he peed in the potty and told him he would get 5 for poop in the potty.  It never happened.

We were at the store the other day and he wanted a toy truck really bad and I told him if he pooped in the potty, we would get it for him.  Every time he pees, he asks for the truck and says "I pooped!  Truck please!"

  • The only other thing that I have is when you go poop Q goes to poop. So while you sit on the toilet he sits on the toilet.

Also maybe look for the book 'Who's in the Loo?' by Jeanne Willis and Adrian Reynolds. We used to read it to James while he was on the potty to get him to relax and go.

Downs:  I have to go back to the commune to get forms to fill out get get her passport, I hate going there I always feel like an idiot! oh and her passport pic looks horrible, oh well its just 2 years!

QOTW: This morning E was on a changing mat on the floor having no diaper time I kept having to say to Maddy "No, we don't lick her lady parts!"

  • Totziens, I received some good advice in this post about poop training: http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/56727015.aspx

M wouldn't poop sitting on the toilet or even in his underpants, he would ask for a diaper. Finally one day he started pooping in his diaper and I grabbed him and put him on the toilet before he had pooped. I had him face backwards and told him to fart and that I could see his poop and I got really excited, after a few minutes he did it. He has done it ever since.

The day before I bought the book Once upon a potty (http://www.amazon.com/Once-Upon-Potty-Boy-Alona-Frankel/dp/0694013870), we read it that night and he really enjoyed it and told me that the next day he would go on the toilet.

I also would keep him in underpants for pre-school, just make sure to pack a few sets of clothes in case.

  • Ups: D no longer falls out of his toddler bed. He was wonderful all day yesterday though he was overtired and didn't eat much.

    No downs this week.

QOTD: I have a bunch of funny/odd things I've had to say.

    1. No honey, please don't lick the tv.

    2. D, we don't grab daddy's peen (during bathtime).

    3. No, you cannot wear my bra on your head.

    4. We don't play with our junk when we have guests (during a diaper change - SIL was trying to have a conversation with me and he kept grabbing himself).

    5. Get your pooh bear out of the toilet.

    6. We don't eat bin food. It's old and yucky. No, get that banana peel out of your mouth!

    7. No, you cannot watch mommy pee. Please go play with toys.

    8. Just because we call you Monkey doesn't mean you need to climb on the furniture. Sit on your butt on the sofa please.

  • Ups: M started kindergarten on Monday. He loved it and didn't cry. Yesterday was his first full day and he ate well at the cantine and had his nap - how the teachers get all the kids to sleep in the same room at the same time bewilders me!

Does it make me a bad mom to say that I'm really enjoying my days without him?

Downs: Typical 3 year old behavior of not listening, not eating, and always wanting his own way.

QOTW: I'd say anything that has to do with poop. The other day he asked me for a poop cookie. It took me a few seconds to understand he wanted a gingersnap, but he called it a poop cookie because I had given him one once after he pooped on the toilet.

  • Good afternoon!

Ups:  I had my glucose tolerance test today, and did really well.  I am so thankful!  Little Pea was super active after I drank the glucose syrup, it was so funny.  But it is so nice that he is so active now.  DH even felt a kick last night, it was so sweet!

Downs:  I am anemic, and was put on iron tablets at my last doctor's appt.  Two days after I started the iron, my arthritis got really bad, like almost unable to walk bad.  I accidentally missed a dose this weekend, and the swelling in my foot and pain went down considerably.  I spoke to the doctor about it today, and she put me on an herbal, approved for pregnant people, liquid. I really hope this works, because I am really afraid that my rheumatologist will want me to go back on my medicine, which I don't want to do during the pregnancy.

QOTW:  Since I'm not a mom yet,  I am so excited that my belly is growing.  I never realized how exciting it could be- normally, I groan when my stomach gets bigger :)

Finn was potty trained in January with pee, and refused to poop on the potty. He would wait until his 'quiet' time (instead of napping) and had a pull up on and would poop in it, every day, like clockwork. We begged him, tried to bribe him, read books, talked about it, everything. Finally, like 2 weeks ago, he decided it was time and now he will only poop in the potty. I don't know what clicked with him.

I think if you know he has to go, and he won't go in the potty, put him in a pull up, change it as soon as he goes, talk about why he is too old to poop in a pull up and then put on underwear. Only let him wear it long enough to poop in it. But I hate cleaning poop out of underwear so I could be biased about that.

And definitely send him in underwear to school. With several changes of clothes.

I'm not a mom, but when my niece was being potty trained, it took my SIL and brother months to figure out that she was too shy to go in front of anyone. She just didn't know how to express that she wanted to be alone to do her business. As soon as they figured out that they needed to leave the bathroom and close the door fully behind them, she went. Since Quint is hiding in the bathroom, maybe he also needs more privacy?

UPS: H felt a kick yesterday! That was very exciting.

DOWNS: I'm getting very frustrated at how tired I am and how hard it is for me to focus both at work and at home. I'm behind on my to-do list at work (fortunately I hide it well enough that no one notices), and my house is a mess!

I really love hearing about all your adventures, I think it's helping me get a bit more prepared, this still doesn't feel quite real to me!
