London ladies...what to do there?

DH and I are going to be visiting London for a weekend in Oct.  He will be staying the week to work and I will be flying home Tuesday morning.  We have been there many times and I think have done all the tourist things, but thought there might be something we should see per the locals.

We have...been to the Tower of London, London Eye, Parliment, Westminster Abby, Kinsington Palace tour, London bridge, tour on the Thames, bicycling tour, harrods, buckingham palace tour, downing street, seen the play Chicago...I think that is it.  What haven't we done that we should?

We are staying at the Hilton near Paddington station.

  • Off the top of my head: British Museum.  Trips out to Windsor Castle or Hampton Court.  Have a traditional afternoon tea.  Go on one of the many London Walks (www.walks.com).  There are lots of other theatre shows to see.  Wander through some of the markets, like Borough market.

  • I'd skip town and spend the weekend in Brighton.  Quick, cheap train ride away and you'll always be able to spend Monday doing something in London.

  • Have you been to Greenwich? It's lovely! There's a nice market, the prime meridian, royal observatory, and the second-largest painted ceiling in Europe (inside a building designed by Sir Christopher Wren).

Other things not on your list: The trifecta of South Kensington museums: Natural history, science and V&A; British Library (free and with the Magna Carta, Beatles lyrics in their hand-writing, Bibles from the 4th century, etc); Churchill/Cabinet War Rooms (especially for history, war, or politics buffs); several parks (Regent's Park? The zoo? Hampstead Heath?); and the Geoffyre museum (history of London interiors and really outstanding--on Shoreditch High Street).

The suggestion of London walks and also trips out of town (Cambridge, Bath, Canterbury, Brighton, etc) are also excellent.

  • There is an evening jack the ripper tour that is supposed to be really fun if your are into those kinda things.

I am also a huge fan of a picnic in hyde park with a bottle of "pino winio"

  • Totally want to go on a London Walk!!!  You will find out things about London that you've never seen before (and honestly neither have a lot of Londoners).  Walk through Hampstead & have a been at a pub near the Heath.  Go see another show...a smaller one that you won't find anywhere else.  Go to the TimeOut London website - there's slews of things you can do in London - I've lived here for years and still have tons I can do.
I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • Go to Borough Market - by far one of my most favourite places in London.

And go to the Tate Modern - Fabulous Art and then you take a walk down Embankment.

  • Most of these are already mentioned, but I will second them all :)

Borough Market is excellent, but only runs Thurs - Sat and closes at 6pm latest.

Greenwich has a great market and the boat tour down there is surprisingly informative. Prime meridian - one foot in the west and one foot in the east, pretty cool.

Love Brighton - only I wouldn't spend an entire weekend there. One full day should do it. They have a great pier with loads of carnival rides and games. I recently took my parents there when they came to visit and we had a total blast with all of the games and rides.

Walk up the tower of St. Paul's cathedral for amazing views.

Portebello Road/Notting Hill market is a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

The London walks are fab. The Jack the Ripper tour was alot of fun, and the outcome was not what I was expecting.

Also you could go online and plan your own walk...

  • and I always take visitors walking from Picadilly Circus through Leicester Square/SoHo over to Chinatown (with a stop for a pint at Waxy O'Connor's) and wind up at Covent Garden...
