Tell me about Spanx

Going to a wedding this weekend, Rented the Runway, and did not opt to get two sizes of the dress, since I measured myself and was fairly confident that the size I got would fit well.

It fits great on top, on bottom it needs some help.  There is some puckering due to snugness in the rear/hips.

I'm thinking that Spanx will do the trick to suck me in and smooth things out.  Who has used them?  In your experience, did it reduce your dress size at all, or just smooth things out?  I'm looking at getting these super-duper slimming ones because the draping in front covers any mid-section lumps.

Re: Tell me about Spanx

  • Spanx are great for smoothing things out but I didn't find it to affect the size of the dress.  Maybe if you're close enough to that size it'll help though.  I don't remember if you can try them on in-store, but it's worth a shot.  Bring the dress and face the horrid dressing-room mirrors.  If you look good in there, you'll look GREAT at the wedding!

  • If you can actually fit in to the dress and just want it to look better, Spanx might do the trick. I agree with pp that they won't bring you down a dress size or anything. The tops of the panties/pants usually roll down and annoy me but I've grown to love the slip.
  • It could work, Spanx are pretty awesome...definitely give it a try. And buy it from Nordstrom so you can return it if it doesn't end up working :-)

    This.

Spanx never dropped me a dress size, but it did make snug dressed look better.

  • If it fits but is just a little snug and pulling, Spanx will probably help. At the very least it makes it so the fabric can't cling to your hips so it looks a bit smoother.

  • I got the Higher Power (goes from under bra to mid-thigh) after J was born to help with slimming/smoothing under dresses and sucking things in.

I ordered a dress for a wedding a few months ago and accidentally got a size smaller than I meant to (6P instead of 8P in J. Crew). The Spanx totally made the difference between being able to zip and not. Plus it helped my thighs from rubbing together. I say go for it.
