Re: UO Wednesday

  • I'm already sick of the 9/11 coverage I'm seeing on TV, and the campaigns they have going about what you're going to do to remember.  I was around 10 years ago... I remember the day quite vividly.  I have no problem remembering, thanks.

  • I'm with you MB. "what will YOU do to remember?" um, I don't need any help remembering. It's burned into my memory forever, thanks.

I was watching the Children on 9/11 special the other night, and 3 of the sisters (now teenagers) were talking about how the anniversary is so hard because of all of the extra attention. That struck a nerve with me. Although you want to remember it and pay tribute to those people, I can see how it's a double-edged sword for their families.

Right??!  And all the fearmongering going on in the news again.... "10 years later, but are we REALLY safe?!"  It's like... c'mon...

Ditto. Not only is what happened etched in my head but also the fact that I was living with my ex-FI at the time (something else I'd rather forget).

  • try getting married on 9-11 and having everyone ask you "why would you pick a date like that" - well to tell you the truth something good needs to happen. Do you think people who are due around this time say "I hope that I can hold the kid in so it doesn't share that date" ---- no.

I agree with honoring it with the anniversary, but I have refused to read a lot of the newspapers and mags this week due to the reminder.

  • I don't really watch the news for reasons like this; they take one thing that is going on and blow it up out of proportion just to have something to talk about (over and over and over again). I agree that we need to acknowledge this day, but how about you tone it down about 11 notches.

My OP: I am not ready for fall. I didn't really do anything I wanted to do this summer and I'm kind of pissed at myself for it. WE had a lot of weddings, showers, baptisms, etc...that took up most of our weekends/time so it's not that we sat around not doing anything but it still makes me sad that I missed a whole season of fun!

My big OP: I don't like pumpkin spice and I really don't like Starbucks. Flame away Wink

    this.  All of the above.

I have a ton of UOs these days, let's see:

    1. I don't like Pioneer Woman.  I think she's phony and fake, and I've thought this long before FN picked up her show.  Same with Ina Garten.  I think she's pretentious and snobby and I don't understans why people like her.

    2. I hate when people say things like "I really admire you for what you do [for a living]"  Well, you shouldn't.  Because I hate my job and I hate my clients.  I appreciate the compliment, but I really don't deserve it.

    3. I couldn't care less about the Kardashians, anything Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, 16 and Pregnant.  I hate that people watch these shows and encourage this level of dysfunction.

That's all I got for now, I'm sure I'll think of more.

  • I agree with all the coverage of Sept 11. I'll always remeber no matter how many yrs have gone by. I also hate when something happens ie Hurricane irene and that's all the news covers. Yea it's sad that ppl lost their homes and there is flooding but what would like me to do? I would like to know what else is going on in the world thank you very much.

I don't know who either of those people are. And I'm cool with that.

My UO is I tried to read the first Twilight book a few months ago. I thought it was really poorly written and I stopped reading after chapter 2. I have watched the movies because my friend wanted me to see them but I really have no opinion about those at all.

  • Also --

I don't understand the "mom" haircut.

I don't know about y'all, but I can do a helluva lot more with my hair long than with it short.  When it's short, you actually have to style it... long hair?  Up in a bun, and done!

Thank you, I thought I was the only one !!! I never understood this or the "wife chop." When my hair was short, it would take more time to deal with each morning than it does now.

I agree with both of these.

I'm not ready for this weather- 60s and rainy all the time- what does that mean this winter will be like?!

I'm over bff's boyfriend drama.  If someone you're dating lays a hand on you, you leave, period.  I don't have sympathy for this "I want to stay and make it work" bs- and truthfully, he did it once, he's going to do it again, I don't understand why you would ever think he wouldn't.  I know I have to be there for her and everything, but it is going to take every ounce of self restraint I have not to jack him in the face when I see him next week.

  • I agree about Pioneer Woman.  What's so special about her?  I never heard of her until FN announced her show.  But I do like Ina.  Her stuff is easy and I do like her style... But maybe I'm envious of the Hamptons' lifestyle.

I'm really over my single friends dating lives "drama".  Either you like the guy or you don't.  Move on if you don't.  If he doesn't call you back or calls you only for favors, move on.  There's not too many ways to analyze that... Move on. If you ask me what I think of him and I tell you he's lame don't get upset because I gave you my honest opinion.  Stop dating sucky guys and maybe I won't think they're boring.  And maybe the reason you can't get serious with anyone is because you take yourself too seriously. Also, please stop thinking there's someone out there who is perfect.. There isn't you're going to have to make some kind of sacrifice... can't have it all! Oy!  Your problems are minuscule. STFUTYVM.

  • Mine is pregnant women who drink - even the rare glass of wine or champagne.  Don't get me wrong - I love drinking.  But if you can't make it through your pregnancy without a drink, maybe you have a problem.  And I think justifying it as harmless is selfish. This and pregnant women who tell their husbands/SO's not to drink around them... put on your big-girl-about-to-be-a-mom panties and deal with it.
