Ok, I know it's just Hump Day for you guys, but I just put my kids to bed and am about to drink something cold and hoppy to ring in the weekend here. I'm most excited about tomorrow night though when I get to take DH out for his birthday and give him the birthday gift I've been trying to keep secret for over a month. I've already ruined the surprise over our dinner plans as I accidentally blurted them out a little while ago, so hopefully he will at least be surprised by something.
What has everyone else been up to? How is the weather is SWFL or where ever you're at?
Re: TGIW!
What'd you get him?
Busy, busy with work absences. I'm the overflow person, so I've been covering a lot of tushes lately. Busy also with a two-year old. Holy crap she is just a ball of motion. Potty training has been fun, though. She gets sooooo excited and says to herself, "I so proud of you!"
That is just crazy that it's the "weekend" there. I wish it was the weekend here.
I'm horrible @ keeping secrets from Chris, especially birthday presents. For his last birthday (in june). I managed to keep his presents a secret for a really long time. I ordered him Florida Sportman magazine and i had to order it about 10wks before his bday. omg. torture. i know it's not super teriffic, but he likes the mag, and so it was hard.. i also bought him flip flops that he had been wanting and every time he mentioned wanting new flip flops it was all I could do not to tell him.
he on the other hand, has no problem keeping secrets about presents from me.
nothing new with me... Imogen looks so adorable in her new school clothes!
Oh, i wanted to ask you - are the kids @ her school American? I guess she goes to a school on base? that whole thing confuses me.
I got him a kick ass watch. He's never owned one but has been pining for the perfect watch for a long time.
Being the overflow person isn't fun. I hope someone returns the favor and covers for you when you need it, but I'm guessing the answer is no by the sounds of it. That is so cute about the potty training pride- she deserves the pat on the back.
Jena, it always sounds like you know just what to get Chris that he'll love. You're a good wife!
As for DD's school, she goes to an American international school. I don't know what the exact breakdown is at the school, but I'd guess it's less than 50% American students. There are Saudi kids there as well as some Indian, European, etc. It truly is an international school. The school isn't on a military base. The school campus is very much like a compound though- lots of check points to get on campus and multiple safe rooms in every building.
Well thanks. but he is very uncomplicated (although his family can never figure out what to get him...)
So, at DDs school, do all the kids speak English? How does it work with so many different languages? ..i swear i'm not ignorant, but i have no idea how this works.
Hi, happy weekend to you! That's exciting that you have a big surprise for your H. I always feel like my H gets me the most amazing presents and I never quite can do so well for him. I try, but his birthday is right before Christmas, he can be hard to shop for (I mean how much Patriots & Red Sox stuff does he need? And he gets all his golf stuff free) plus since we are a one income family, It kind of feels like I'm buying him presents with his own money- although for any thing else, it feels like our money.
I really have nothing exciting to share that has been going on with me. But I guess that is good! I did finally catch up on your blog the other day. I need to remember to add you to my reader.
Haha- you probably wouldn't have wanted to be where I am if you knew I was in Saudi Arabia. I actually like it here in a lot of ways, but whenever I say that to a Saudi they regard me suspiciously. Apparently it's hard to believe anyone that's not from Saudi would like anything about this place.
Jena, DD's school instructs its core courses in only English. The Arabic classes are like foreign language classes. The kids from other countries learn in English just like the American kids. These aren't silly questions. I'd have no reason to know them either if it wasn't for the fact that my kid goes to this school. And I think it's nice to have a husband whose wants are uncomplicated. It make life easier!
Tasha, I think you have your plate pretty full with the kids. How are they doing? Has Beckett adjusted well to being a big brother? Are you working part-time at the flower shop again, or is that on hold for now?
They are good- thanks for asking
Maisy continues to be the easiest, most content little baby and Beckett is...a 3 year old boy- so one moment, charming, funny and sweet, and the next a mess of emotions. He does take the big brother role seriously; he loves to make her laugh (and she will laugh at him like no one else) and help out, although jealousy does still flare up from time to time. But it's a tough age, even without a new sibling in the mix. Was the adjustment for Imogen easier, being that she was a little older and a girl? I hear girls tend to adapt a little better because they have a that mommy instinct. It's like the best doll ever.
For now, I won't be returning to the flower shop (except perhaps to help at the holidays). Maybe when Beckett starts VPK, and I wouldn't have to pay for 2 of them to go to school, I might go back part time. I do miss the creative outlet a little.
What kind of restaurant are you taking your husband to for his birthday?
Actually I would love to visit Saudi Arabia one day I seen some documentaries and it look like so much more than what people think.
I was born and raised in dominican republic and went to a school similar to what you describe your daughter is going and it was awesome, so much to learn, different cultures etc I think it help me be so open minded to new people and I came out trilingual

It's definitely different here than people expect. That's awesome that you had such a great experience with you school in DR. Growing up trilingual is a huge asset!
