Has anyone have on installed?
We've had a little water leakage - both with the hurricane and then last night with the torrential rain we've had. We're thinking a sump pump might be a good investment - but I have no idea what it entails and/or might cost!
Re: Sump pumps?
We've had one installed when the one we had before crapped out. That was about $700 (at 2:00 am). But we already had the sump pit. The pit is just that - a hole in the basement floor that allows the water to flow in and then be pumped out. I'm not sure how much that would cost. Maybe $1000?
The really expensive part comes if you need a french drain (which we also have). Then your talking about $1000s.
Honestly, depending on your definition of "little" you sound like you might be in good shape. We've had so much rain recently that if you can get away with a "little" water in the basement, you're going to be fine 95% of the time. Then again if your basement is finished, I can understand not wanting to risk it.
We had one installed about a year ago - with a french drain. We've been fine up until today when we had water on the side of the basement that never had a problem before - so we don't have a drain over there. The drain side is fine.
We didn't have the whole basement done - and just about 12 feet of drain put in, with a pump and a connector from our other sump pump (long story) and it was about $2K.
I cannot recommend Bennett Waterproofing highly enough. Other companies wanted triple for this work and Jamie was a pleasure to deal with, and super flexible and did quality work. He was a nestie referral for us. If you call, tell him Anne & Bill referred you.
I just left a message for him this morning because we're going to get the drain extended to the other side of our basement. It is worth the peace of mind.
No, but our house had one installed already when we bought it. One thing I would say is a must if I had to do it all over again - battery back-up!!! Every time the power goes out in a storm with heavy rain, we have to get up through the night to bail out the sump. We just had to cut our trip short ahead of Irene because we knew we'd lose power and didn't want the finished basement to flood. I would kill to have a battery back up on our system, but from the research DH has done it's expensive to have one installed after the fact. Instead we're going to look into a generator.
