Hi, My name is Amanda and my husband and I have just relocated to Dallas (Irving, TX). I was excited to check out the message board and even more excited to see how active it is, we moved from St Louis and there might be 1 post a week there... nobody ever chatted there! So I am excited that this board is so active even if I don't understand a majority of the abbreviations you all type (hopefully I catch on).
A little more about me/us, I am 28 and I am from Kansas City, MO but have lived in many places. My husband is 31 and is from India, he has been in the US since 2002 and works as a business and computer consultant. I used to work at Saint Louis University as an administrator/ program coordinator but due to a job change for my husband we have relocated here and I am currently a housewife until a new job becomes available. My husband travels during the week so I spend M-F home alone and without a job it gets boring very fast! We have been married 7 months but since we only see each other on the weekends sometimes it feels like we got married just yesterday.
Right now I am spending time focusing on my health, a couple years ago I lost 40 lbs and since I have kept that off I am aiming to lose another 30 lbs. I am always looking for new healthy recipes, restaurants, fitness ideas, etc. However, I am not a calorie counter or obsessive about not eating this or that... I love who I am including my body and my efforts are about improving my health not my look. I also love the arts and enjoy seeing plays and going to museums and discovering new artists. I love eating ethnic food (especially Asian) so I have been told that Irving is a good place to be (it seems as though there is an Asian restaurant on every corner). I am currently working to improve my Indian cooking skills and have gotten pretty decent, but in general I just enjoy cooking.
Well thats more than enough about me for now. I look forward to getting to know many of you and hope to find a great fit and new life in Dallas!
Re: Hello! Happy to be here!
Welcome! Thank you for letting us know so much about you, we are glad you are here!
ETA: By the way, I am Leslie, 25, my DH is 28 and I also recently lost a large amount of weight with ~50 more to go. I am big into running and for right now Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred on my non-run days. I do count calories but like you, don't obsess about it. It's a lifestyle not a diet, right?
ETA 2.0 - ETA means edited to add and DH means Dear Husband.

Hello and welcome!!
Where is your husband from?? Are you Indian too? I'm working on cooking Indian food too, right now it's a failure. DH doesn't mind cause we go to his parents every Sunday and eat there. There are a ton of Indian places in Irving and a ton of Indians period. One really good place is off O'Conner.. There is a Sari shop, beauty salon, grocery store, and restaurant all around there.

Hi DFWindian,
My husband is from Kerala. No, I am not Indian. My husband does not have any family in the states so I can't fall back on his family cooking for him. But lately my husband says my Indian food tastes like it is from India. I haven't gotten to explore the area much but I have heard there are lots of Indian stores to explore. Best of luck with your Indian cooking, maybe we can help each other out sometime!

I'm malayalee too!! (which means I'm from Kerela). That's awesome! Sorry my husband get on to me cause I get really excited when I meet new Indian people. You're probably way better than me at our meals. I've made a few things growing up when, but yea we should totally try and see if we can make something together.
