Venice Wedding

So I did a search for this and didn't find anything. Forgive me if there is a post already out there on this.

I want to get married in Venice but was curious if anyone has had experience with this. There seem to only be a few options through the comune and more options with a wedding planner. I speak Italian fluently though and would rather do everything myself to save money if possible. Can anyone tell me about their experience and also how much it cost?  Thanks!

Re: Venice Wedding

  • There's a few posts already on the board by Jetur-she's currently planning a wedding in Italy.  From what we understand, it's a bureaucratic train wreck.  I'm sure she'll chime in here.

Are you living in IT? From there?  Tell us more about yourself!

  • Yeah, after reading Jetur's posts, I'm not sure why you would subject yourself to that! Unless maybe you already live there...
  • I live in and love Italy.  I also love my H.  I would never have married my H in Italy--- waaaaay too much drama.  Honestly, it's very difficult, esp if your not fluent (which we weren't when we got married).

  • Have you ever been to Venice?  I kind of think it's... not romantic.  To say the least.

Anyway, I'll let Jet tell you ALL about her interesting experience.

I totally agree, Snippy! It was muggy, crowded, stinky, impossible to navigate, and claustrophobic. But DH loves it. Maybe I need to go back and be in a romantic mood. Might be nicer that way.

As to weddings, OP. You'll see on the posts from Jetur (read down the threads) that I too had a nightmare of an experience trying to organize an Italian wedding. Though I'm sure vendors in Venice are pretty professional. Just plan to be there in person for a lot of the organization. Italians work much better face-to-face, plus you can see things for yourself rather than trust someone's word.

Good luck! Hope it goes well!

  • Hahaha, your reactions are too funny! Yes, I've been to Venice. Twice in fact! I do not ever recommend visiting Venice in the summer months. It ruins the enchantment of it! It's my favorite city in the world but I've only visited in January!

This is going to sound weird but I lived in Italy for three years previously. I was also married in Rome. It was rather simple to do, really. But that could be because I was marrying an Italian. Well, as you can all tell from the fact that I'm getting married again that didn't work out too well. lol!

Just to update you, we've decided to axe the Venice idea. I would love it, but since my last wedding was away from my family and friends and in Italy, I really would like to have a wedding in the U.S. with all my family and friends so that I can do every silly American tradition without an Italian telling me it's stupid! Thanks for your inquiry though all the same, ladies!
