Re: S/O Poll Big Game
I didn't go to Iowa State, but will start taking classes there next Fall. Soooo....I figure I'll eventually be a fan, might as well start early. I am really a Husker fan.

You must leave the board. IMMEDIATELY.
Only kidding. Sort of

Molly, we agree.
Ha! We've only been in Iowa for two months....you gotta give me some time to slowly transition over.
That's exactly what inspired this poll! My family are the hardcore Hawkeye fans who didn't go to school there yet LOVE to give me crap about being a Cyclone eventhough it's my Alma Mater!
Ever hear this joke? What do Cyclone and Hawkeye fans have in common? Neither one went to school at the University of Iowa. hehe.

Husker fan here, too. Hiding in plain sight for about 5 years now!
lol...this poll cracks me up!
We are, of course, Cyclone fans but I do enjoy watching the Hawks when they are on TV, etc. I think we watch their games every weekend- DH's parents are die hard hawk fans and he grew up as one.
I kind of hate Husker fans, but I went to the ISU vs. Nebraska game at Memorial Stadium in college and it was one of the coolest things ever. Their fans are diehards!
Our tailgating crew was joking last weekend as we were planning tomorrow's tailgate- it seems like everyone is bringing a family member who is a hawk fan. I think we need to set up two separate tents!

this is kind of snarky
I didn't go to a tradional college after HS, I was a massage therapist for a while and changed directions. I work full time now, and am planning on going back to school this winter. Probably UIU. And I'm an Iowa fan.
Also, I grew up with a former ISU football player who is now a 'star' I couldn't stand him in school or after so I will never root for ISU.
I love you too.
Seriously, though, I don't truly care that much about college football. I grew up in a household where no one followed sports of any kind. We all played a sport or two and that's about it. I married a Nebraskan, and like you said, they are diehards, so it's just easier to join in. (The "Kool-Aid" isn't as good as he keeps telling me. Maybe someday they'll be on top again). Sadly, I have never been to a game at Memorial Stadium, tickets are not easy enough to come by.
I don't know how that was snarky. It's the very point of the poll, plus I didn't say you had to go to Iowa to be a Hawkeye fan. I also said fascinated by, not annoyed by or anything ill fitting. I love that there are so many Hawkeye fans. What I said is that there are people who claim and will further more argue that they are THE biggest Hawkeye fan, yet they've never even been on campus/a game etc. I come from a family full of Hawkeye fans yet I'm the only one to have gone there. If you took it personally than so be it, but it wasn't a personal attack. I have a very expensive piece of paper that I worked pretty hard for, that has The University Of Iowa at the top. If I do happen to see that diploma as the ultimate testament of fan-hood than I'm sure I wouldn't be alone.
i don't think this was snarky at all.
Yeah, not seeing the snark in her comment at all. She was not degrading people for not choosing to go to a traditional 4-year college at all, she was simply stating that there are a lot of people who did not go to school at U of I but claim to be big fans (most of the people from my hometown). :-)

Oh Honey, you don't ever have to transition over....Goooo Biiiiig Reeeed! Huskers are #1 followed by the Hawks. I am from Lincoln and you'll never take the Big Red outta me! Iowa City was a fun place "back in the day" to tailgate and that's I how I became a Hawk Fan.
haha! It's not that I *really* hate them.
