Kitties
Chris and I are tossing around the idea of getting a kitten (well, I'm nagging and he's giving in).
We already have a 3 year old male cat and a two year old female chocolate lab. I like the idea of getting a female cat, but I wonder if any of you know if a male cat or a female cat would be a better match for our male cat?

I had only ever had male cats in my life, until Cami. And we just have her now, so I can't give any great advice.
But our friends have an older male cat, Oliver, who is around 9 or 10. And they just got Lola a couple of years ago, and they are finally getting along now. He chases her around the house and stuff, and they play. But it took a solid year to a year and a half. But he's a crank, so maybe that's why.
I forgot I had a pic!
This is them right after they brought Lola home... maybe a month or two after. He'd tolerate this sort of "cuddling" for about 10 minutes and then he'd be done. Haha

I think if you already have a male cat it would probably be best to get a female. A little bit of experience (parents had female, and got male). They get along pretty good. Oh and I posted pic of my kitty when he was kitten while ago. look how big he is getting!

I don't have any pets at the moment, but Mike has had a few cats which are at his parents still and when he moved out the first time he got a cat from the shelter that was male, when he had to move back in to his parents and took the new cat in, the girl cats didn't mind him much but the other male cat wasn't having none of that in his house. He ended up having to take the cat back to the shelter
I really think it just depends on their personality. We have a female cat who is around 5 and very calm and a male cat who is almost 3 1/2 who is a ball of energy and they don't get along at all. He wants to play non-stop but she takes that as him wanting to attack her. They've never actually hurt each other, but there's tons of hissing, growling, swatting, and chasing that goes on between the two of them.
My Mom has two older female cats, around 8 years old, and then two male cats, around 1, and they all get along pretty good...one of the female cats even cleans the two 'babies' daily.
So I guess like people, it really just depends on their individual moods and personalities.
