eReaders

Those of you that have them, which one do you have?  What do you like about it?  What don't you like?  Would you recommend it?

Re: eReaders

  • I have a Kindle and I LOVE it! Most of what I like about it is true of any e-Reader, mainly, I just love that I can carry multiple books around with me, and only have to carry the weight of the Kindle. This was awesome for our Europe trip this summer, I think I read 8 books, and it would have been a pain to carry them all. The two things I think separate it from other eReaders is the ability to buy books from Amazon, and the eInk screen (basically, you can take it out into the sun and there is no glare because it is not backlit like a laptop/iPad/Nook). The one thing I don't like about it is that I can't get library books on it, but Amazon has announced that this will be changing by the end of this year. I'm expecting an announcement in the next couple of months, because I'm sure they'll want this new function available before the holiday rush, since (based on my research), that seems to be the main reason why people buy a Nook over a Kindle. I would definitely recommend it!

  • I have the Nook Touch. I LOVE it! The Nook Touch, has e-ink, so there is no glare b/c there is no back-light. It is wonderful. You can purchase books from anywhere and you can rent books from the library! I have only had to charge my Nook twice, I am getting about a month's charge out of one full charge. I read with it almost daily and absolutely love that it is only 6 inches and super light weight. I just pack it in my purse and go!

  • I have the first Nook model. It was given to me as a gift, I didn't really have an interest in it when I got it. I honestly haven't used mine much, but that is mostly because I tend to read books that others pass on to me, rather than buying books. I do like that you can get books through the library with it, however, my library has a LONG wait list for most of the ebooks that I have been interested in (I assume other libraries aren't like this as most people seem to go this route). Mine also has e-ink so it is easy to see. I wish I had one of the newer Nook models, I think I would like them better. I also find it difficult to hold for long periods of time, but I think if I had a cover and I was able to hold it more like an actual book it would be better.

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense, it's been a long day...

  • Let me put in a second plug for the Kindle.  I bought it last December, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!  I prefer it over the nook because it doesn't have a touch screen, and because it's much thinner and lighter.  Plus I love Amazon and it makes it so easy to connect to everything!
