But it's so pretty- I don't want to hide it!

Hi ladies,

So DH and I finally (FINALLY) moved into a place that has enough storage for all our wedding gifts. It only took a year or so ;).

Anyhow, I've found places for almost everything but I'm really stuck on what to do with the fine china and pretty glassware. I think the china is fine stored away in a sideboard, but the platinum-rimmed glassware is just too pretty to hide!

I'm not a big fan of grandma's 'china cabinet' style display. I want something a little more modern that still can showcase some shiny things. Has anyone come up with a good solution or seen one online?

Every time I search for china storage online all I get are floor to ceiling lighted glass-door cabinets which just seem so dated to me.

 Thoughts/pictures/ideas are welcome!!

  • Of course I cannot find a picture at the moment (I'll keep looking), but when I've been to Ikea they always have some modern glass front shelving systems.

The ones I've seen are like rectangle boxes that attach to the wall and then have a glass front for a door.

    I'll try to PIP later.

ETA: the bold is also know as a cabinet! seriously what was I thinking.

  • I love see-through cabinet doors! If you have enough space, you could replace a couple of your current cabinet doors with glass fronts. Install some glass shelves and attach one of those touch lights at the top of the cabinet.

  • If you don't have kids, or animals that might be knocking it over or breaking it...

I watch HGTV, like, religiously. Something I've seen designers do a lot is set it out on a table. Do you have a dining room? I've seen then get like a nice little table, set it the room with the dining table and set up almost like a little bar area.  Where they set the glasses out with an empty pitcher or a small wine rack with wine.  It seems like it'd look kind of out of place, I know.  But I've seen some really cute little set ups like that!

I don't understand the question, and I won't respond to it.
  • I have 2 curio cabinets from World Market (pretty much like these) that I use as china cabinets. One holds my china stacked up, and the other holds stemware. Because they are smaller and lower, they aren't really in your face with it, but the stuff is still visible. Plus their chunkier build makes them less like grandma's cabinets.
