Good Morning!

How was everyone's week?  I'm definitely in a TGIF sort of mood, this week was rough!  I'm looking forward to relaxing on Saturday and a BBQ on Sunday.  We invited everyone from the office, so it should be fun.  But get this...our office manager's husband can't come because he has to protect himself from knowing any Americans.  That's frowned upon in government workers, so they move any people with exposure to foreigners around a lot (in terms of jobs), so they don't get too close to anyone.

QOTD: What was the most awkward date/romantic situation you have ever had?

Re: Good Morning!

  • That's crazy - just to clarify, is it just Americans he can't know or all foreigners?

I'm glad it's Friday, but the H leaves for the states on Sunday. Need to try to savor tomorrow.

QOTD: I have to tell a friend's story because it's short and sweet and all mine are novels.

She goes on a date. When they ask for the check, the guy asks if they can just split it. She says sure. The check comes, the guy puts down a coupon for buy one meal, get one free then goes to the bathroom. This was the awkward situation, not the romantic one.

  • Today is our 2nd Anniversary!  Yea, go us!

We aren't doing a whole lot of anything, just a lazy day.  I am trying to figure out why my new Kindle (less than 24 hrs old) didn't hold a battery charge for more than 12 hours.  I'm hoping it's just because it was the first charge.

  • I've heard of people working for governments not being able to visit certain countries, but this is the first time I've heard of not being able to associate with people of a certain nationality.  How strange.

QOTD: I don't have any interesting stories, but have been on a few awkward dates.

Most foreigners.  Some are OK (like Turks, they are getting used to them now), but I'd imagine that Brits, French, etc. are just as bad.  Not sure how they feel about Russians at this point....Tstan originally didn't want to leave the USSR, so maybe there is lots of love there.

As for QOTD:  I really meant more that maybe you weren't on a date but were in some awkward situation with a guy/girl trying to hit on you or vice versa, etc.  I didn't want to limit it to dates, but it was a confusing way to word it.

I didn't answer my own question...I can't think of anything.  I guess I'm lucky not to have had anything too awkward happen on a date.  Although one time this guy and I came out of the restaurant to find a boot on his car.  So we had to trudge back in the snow while he anxiously worried about how to get home and then get his car back.  I guess he had unpaid tickets and stuff too, which made it worse.

How long did you charge it for? I tend to go overboard on the first charge.  Also, if you have the wireless on that definitely eats up the battery, so make sure you turn it off.

ETA: Brain fart, I totally missed that first sentence. Happy Anniversary!

I charged it until the light turned green, so about three hours?

  • Happy anniversary AMrsin09!

I'm all bleh today. The weather has been a little bit of a downer lately. Overcast and heavy atmosphere. I need to go to the grocery store too.

QOTD:  I was the awkward one on the dates. I got in a funky mood on the way to a date with H (then BF) and then spent the entire dinner not talking at all. I was not at all able to pull myself out of the funk. It was bad. He still brings it up when we go out to eat :/

  • Morning, I am working tonight and going to the library today, very exciting plans. Tomorrow I have a kids party and then working and Sunday I have Church, SIL coming for lunch and work.

QOTD: When I was 18 I had a fairly good friend from school that was interested in me. We had finished school in the December and he went to Australia, but he came back in February and on Valentines Day he turned up at my work with flowers and asked to take me out. We went out on a date and ended up snogging in the backseat of the car and then went out a second time, but by this time I began realise that I was not romantically interested in him and I chatted to my Mom about this. I never realised that my sister (who was 6 years old at the time) was listening, so the next time this friend came round to our house and I was building up the courage to tell him (in private) my baby sister went and told him that I don't want to be his girlfriend in front of my whole family. He was embarrassed, I was embarrassed. There was an awkward silence that fell over the room. He left soon after that, and we have never been friends again.

THIS happened to me once on a date with DH!  It was maybe 3 weeks after we started dating and I wasn't speaking in Spanish in the car on the way to the restaurant and he said something that hurt my feelings -- I don't remember what even.  Anyway, I got so irritated that I just shut down and didn't talk most of the night.  It was SO awkward that after he dropped me off at home I texted him to see if I could come over because the evening had just been too weird.  That's still the thing that bothers him most -- sometimes when something bothers me I just get all quiet and he can tell I'm annoyed, but he doesn't know why.  Bad habit...I'm trying to change!

Today I'm planning on getting my printer to freaking work so I can start working on a travels scrapbook.  Woohoo!  Today's a holiday here, but DH will be studying for an exam he has coming up.

  • Happy Friday!  This week has gone fairly fast, but I'm glad the weekend is here.  Hopefully the weather holds out and we can have a great GTG picnic on Sunday with the London ladies.  Otherwise, I don't have any big plans.

QOTD: I can't think of anything too awkward.  But I did feel somewhat bad for my DH on our first date.  Just before the date, my mom had called and told me that our cat had died.  He had been with us for almost 20 years, so needless to say I was pretty broken up.  I pulled myself together, but there were times during the date when I could just feel myself welling up and trying not to cry.  I told DH right away what had happened, so he did understand, but it's still not the first impression I was trying to make!  Obviously, he wasn't too put off by me though Wink

Re. the Kindle, definitey turn the wireless off if you want the battery to last a long time.  It makes a huge difference, although I would still think it would last for more than 12 hours.  I think the first time I charged mine, I left it plugged in for 12 hrs or something.

    This is classic! How embarrassing!

I really need to go apply for my Brazil visa today, but I'm still waiting on the letter from management, and I don't think I'll get it in time. Ugh. Stress. I also just found out that I'm probably going to be in Houston longer than I thought, so I have three overseas meetings back-to-back at the end of the month.

Tonight I'm going to a "movie stars" themed birthday party tonight, so after work I have to go home and put on a blonde wig and my white halter Marilyn Monroe dress.

QOTD: I have had a lot of low-key awkward moments, but I can't think of one that stands out as worse than the others. When I was in high school, I worked part-time in a music store, and my boss had a crush on me. He actually invented an employee-of-the-month award so that he could take me to a concert. I hung out the whole time with some friends who were also there, so later when I realized that the store didn't have an employee-of-the-month program, things got pretty awkward pretty fast!

  • Happy Anniversary, aMrs!

Rocket launch has been postponed again til tomorrow, so I did get to sleep in a tiny bit.  Getting ready for the day now!

Ladies, thank you all so much for the birthday wishes :) I can officially say that yesterday was my best birthday ever and that 27 is off to a great start! Had such a great day, spent the first half doing everything I wanted and brought the puppy with me everywhere, came home and had a wonderful nap.  By the time I woke up, BF was on his way home from the airport and when he got here, I got to open presents :D Holy cow, did I cry my eyes out.  He's the most thoughtful and sincere man :) Very lucky.

QOTD: Any awkward date I've been on -- very few -- I tend to force conversation and feign interest, lol.  Nothing specific, but I want the time to keep rolling along.

QOTD: I went on a date while DH, then just a friend, was on vacation. The date was with an American soldier. He took me to a bad restaurant, missed all the movies and then took me home, gave me a bad kiss and asked if he could take me out again...yeh I wasn't so hot on the idea oh and he couldn't drive a stick well and owned one!

  • Happy Anniversary AMrs and Happy Birthday Ashley!

Just came home from lunch with a friend who is visiting from Australia. Going to pick up M in a bit then for apero with some friends in the old town.

QOTD: I was living with a roommate our first year of university, she used to go home every weekend. One Friday evening after class there was a knock on our apartment door, I opened it and it was a cute guy. He explained he was there to see Julie (the RM). She had forgotten that she had made plans with him and left for the weekend. We ended up going out for a drink together. That was pretty awkward as they had met online and had a great connection, but had never met in person.

He wasn't my type and kind of dull so it ended up being just friendly drinks. She did go out with him a few times after that, no spark though.

I wish I remembered her last name so I can find her on facebook, she was an great roommate!

  • Afternoon! We had an interesting start to work today. None of our systems would come up. Aaaaaagh! Had to put a note on the door and stay closed. Thankfully Stateside was able to fix it, we got all our applications to load, and finally opened at 10am. Was kind of nice since it's our short day that meant we were only open for four hours.

QOTD: Was on a date and found out that1) the guy aged quite well and was actually 18 years older than me, and 2) he had asked me on a date after knowing me for a bit because he thought I would make a good mom for his 5-year old son.
