Alternate route to Sioux City/Le Mars, IA?

Anyone know what this route might be or how I could find it out?  It appears I could take some highways through Nebraska, but then the bridge from NE to IA is closed.  Cah-rap!

  • Ugh...what in the hell are you going to LeMars for?

My mom's from there so I can make fun of it ;)

  • What are you going to LeMars for?  That's my hometown!    I was actually up in SC yesterday for work and the best way from Omaha is to go through Fort Calhoun and Blair and cross the bridge into Missouri Valley...I saw a sign yesterday saying it was going to be closed briefly today but other than that it is open.  Otherwise from Iowa I think you would be best to take 80 east around CB and then take 680 to get you back to 29-

Hey now!  We are the Ice Cream Capital of the World you know- haha!  I didn't realize your mom was from there...I grew up there and still have a lot of family back home-

  • Also jennie...when I went yesterday it took about 1hr, 45 minutes from out in West Omaha to SC so probably 2hr, 15 minutes to LeMars...it was longer a few weeks back with construction on 29 but I noticed a lot of that was done when I drove yesterday

Small world!  My mom was born there but raised in Remsen.  My grandparents farmed.  We still have some family in LeMars and the surrounding areas though.

    I'm photographing a wedding there.

Thanks for the help.  So you're sure the interstate bridge will be open?  I just can't risk it being closed, so maybe I should go the 680 way.

    Uuuuugh.

My sister's fiance is from Remsen...both my mom and dad were born and raised in LeMars and my DH is also from LeMars so we have lots of family and friends there yet-

I know that the bridge between Blair and Mo Valley has been open for quite a while other than for short periods of time for minor work.  Did you check the DOT sites for each state?  I know those are very up to date with closures...otherwiee taking 80 around CB to the Avoca area and then getting on 680 to connect to 29 North would probably be the best bet as that has always remained open.

  • Just saw FB...I would defintiely not take Highway 59- those roads can be so slow if you get stuck in lots of traffic!  Once you get to 29 by Mo Valley you are fine so going around CB using 80/680 is probably best...not sure it makes sense to come into NE just to go through Blair and cross back into Iowa...

Out of curiosity...which church is the wedding at??

And now google maps is showing the bridge open.  Strange!  It's also giving me another route:  Omaha, through Blair, Tekamah, Decatur then getting back on 29 at Onawa?  That looks shorter.  Have you taken that route?

    Wedding's at St. James Church.

I think that route may be shorter miles but I think it takes longer because speed limit is lower and I don't know if it is a 4lane highway...but I am all about interstate driving versus highway driving!

Have a safe trip!  I may know who may be getting married there...  I went to the other Catholic Church but know tons of people who go to St. James

  • You know, I bet you're right.  And since I'll be coming from Glenwood/Council Bluffs, it might just be best to jump on 80E then hit 680.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!
