Since the board is slow, I figure that I'd share what was going on with the Administrator strike.
They striked (?) over not receiving a 4% raise on top of their other raises-they were offered 3%. All 15 of them make more (if not double) than the majority of people in our town. Therefore school was out for past 2 days.
The School Board had an emergency meeting on Wednesday in which some football players begged the board to negotiate so they could play today. Keep in mind that the Board said they would be willing to do mediation, but the Admins refused.
Rumor has it that the HS principal and AD (the highest paid personnel) are the ones pushing for the strike and no mediation. By all means, please, use the kids as pawns in your aim to make 100k.
So the football players parents filed an injunction to stop the strike. And while they tried to play it off as "It's for the good of the students", I KNOW it was only so the football team could play today.
how f'd up is that? Glad we know where our town holds it's priorities. They didn't want a forfeit on our record. Sigh.
The injunction could become permanent.This confuses me to no end-if this is possible, what's the point of a strike?
The whole town is up in arms because now they realize how much the admins get paid. These shenanigans will only hurt the students because when the next Mill Levy comes through to vote-guess what won't get pushed through?
What makes me sick is that it's MY boss, and I absolutely don't agree with it. I don't know how I can continue to work under these people. Argh.

That is crazy... I would be pissed if the principals at my child's school were keeping them out because they wanted more money - who goes into education for the money?
Not sure what a Mill Levy is or how an injunction works.
Hope this gets cleared up soon so the kids can get back to school, you can get back to coaching and by all means, let there be football!

I guess I'm just mad about how much they make compared to teachers.
I get that Administrators "oversee" everyone, but they are literally making 75-100% more than some teachers that have been there for years.
They want the same raise that the non-union Administrators got. However THOSE 4 Admins that got a 4% raise oversee the WHOLE school district-not just one school. A tad different I think.
I just don't like straight across the board pay raises (unless it's cost of living). I just don't feel like there is any incentive to do better.
Unions are such a pain. I say that even though I'm a member of one. They definitely have their positives, but a lot of the issues that they are concerned about (at least in my experience) are things that I don't care about.
With this economy, I think people need to be happy to still have a job that is paid well and has solid benefits. Honestly, teachers get paid pretty well in this area and administration even more. When I joined the public school system, my salary skyrocketed, and it's a poorer district.
I feel your pain. Hopefully people pull through for the kids.
Shame on them for trying to get a 4% raise in this economy. Our districts out here are struggling to keep staffing the same but with budget cuts things look pretty grim. Most districts around us are furloughing days (so staff members aren't paid for those days...).

As a former high school band member, I feel your pain about football related "power" issues. Apparently football is what makes the school tick, right?
