Re: Let's discuss
thats horrible. i can't imagine dressing my daughter up in a outfit like that.
did you see the one where the little girl had her shirt stuffed to have boobs?
They showed the picture on The Talk yesterday afternoon and then I happened upon the show late last night. I just don't get the whole thing. Dressing babies up as women and having them twist and shake their booties is wrong. Having them do that while dressed like a prostitute is another level of wrong.
That little girl won the biggest crown they gave away. That mama is apparently giving those judges what they wanted to see. It's twisted.

My Blog
She was Dolly Parton. She had boobs and a butt... She basically got on stage and just shook her butt. What got me is that the judges LOVED it.... I don't get it!
I watched her on stage in the Pretty Woman costume and I was appalled. I don't understand how any mother would want their child portraying a prostitute and strutting across stage dressed like that. Sadly, the judges loved it so much she won the highest title. They are certainly not concerned about modesty or age-appropriateness on the show.
What I found odd was that one of the mom's went and asked the judges why her daughter didn't win anything. They told her the dress she wore for beauty was too dark for her age category. They like to see the younger girls in more age appropriate pastels.... How can you have the mindset which deducts from dress color due to age category but awards another same aged child, highest winner for a prostitute costume?
TLC = modern day freak show, I don't think I every thought of it that way but can see where you are coming from.
It is unbelievable how some parents behave.
That is exactly the analogy I use when I try and explain my feelings to people about that channel.
I totally agree with this. I find most of the outfits the girls on this show wear to be inappropriate. I think people are mostly outraged not by the outfit itself, since, as you pointed out, if it was just the outfit all of Toddlers and Tiaras would have to be shunned. I think the main issue is a mother fashioning a costume after a prostitute and thinking that is ok.
Totally agree with you. DH saw it on last night and was like WTF! There is NO way I would ever do that to my child. I think some of those moms are insane! And it makes me feel really bad for the message it is sending to these very young girls (babies)!!!
But when the little girl is a teenager, she'll fondly look at the video and pictures and be able to say "My mom dressed me as a prostitute"
You can't take memories like that away!
