Yep, it is that time of year again, where I ask if anyone has a recommendation for a financial planner. We have a guy, but he isn't meeting our needs. Basically, we feel ignored and like he doesn't have our best interests in mind and is just trying to sell us stuff.
DH is thinking of going back for a PhD and we would like someone to help us figure out how to prepare for a reduced income in a couple of years.
So, any recommendations of financial planners in the area?
Re: Financial Planners?
Simple, just tell your husband not to do it.
Seriously though, I don't have a good recommendation but I wish that I did because I feel like I'm starting late on saving for retirement since I've been in my PhD program for several years and I could use the advice too.
DH and I *finally* hooked up with someone about 2 months ago. So far we're beyond impressed. I couldn't ask for better responsiveness - overall a really nice guy with very good ideas about how we should be structuring things. What I like most about them is that they have an asset management side and a planning side and you can do either or both. Unlike other people we met with they didn't push at all to have nearly all of our savings moved into the account that they managed for a percentage fee. They were all about our keeping a large sum in money market and slowly building the account that they manage.
The company is called Strategic Wealth Management. If you want the specific name of our guy ping me. Like I said, we're just starting out with them - but I'm impressed so far and their reviews were stellar.

MH is an assistant for 4 financial advisors. I don't remember if any of them are certified financial planners, but I can ask if you are interested or if you specifically want a CFP. I think one group of brokers he works for would meet your needs better than the other.
ETA: I don't think the other group is bad, but I believe they do more managed accounts and it sounds like you are not looking for that.
