Can anyone tell me about Edmond?
My husband was born and raised in Choctaw. we live in Colorado now, but we've been talking about moving to Oklahoma for a while to be closer to his family. he wants to buy land out in the middle of nowhere, I'm more of a need-Starbucks-down-the-street kind of girl. we're looking into Edmond, or just east of there, looking for a compromise of smaller land (like 5-10 acres instead of 80) that is still close to a town. we have two kids, so I am concerned with quality of schools, I would like to have decent access to stores and restaurants, parks, family activities etc. we're flying out there tomorrow for a long weekend so we're going to drive around and look at the town. any suggestions of things to see would be great. thanks!
Re: Can anyone tell me about Edmond?
I think with amount of acres you are wanting, you maybe looking around Lake Arcadia (east of Edmond). The area definitely has nice housing additions with that amount of land or just private land with your house and no neighborhood. I think East or West Edmond is nice to live in, just central Edmond is soooo busy, it takes forever to get anywhere. I live in North Central Edmond and geez the traffic was bad. The East side of Edmond definitely has some cute shops with the bigger chain stores nearby. The Edmond schools are one of the better in the metro.
Do you or your husband work? Know where you will work? That may also help determine if Edmond is the best place to live compared to commute to the job site.
And be prepared for OK weather! Has he told you what it is like???
I'm a far north Edmondite and I really like it. It's close to lots of things, but we still get to feel kind of isolated. It was actually just chosen as one of CNBCs best suburbs. In terms of public schools, it's one of the highest ranked school systems in the state. Here are the links:

You won't find that much land in Edmond really, but on the outskirts definitely. Arcadia area is a good option. If you want to try further south, you might look into the Mustang area. Lots of land down there, not far from the highway (and Mustang is a good school district too, like Edmond). It has a little more of a country feel than Edmond, but it's still very close to everything (especially now that the new outlet mall is open on I-40!). Also, land around Mustang might be cheaper. Not sure what kind of budget you have, but the Edmond area is generally a bit more pricey than other areas.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
I live in the Deer Creek area which is east of Edmond. We have also looked at housing in west Edmond. Both areas are great. West Edmond has more trees and hills, whereas the east side is flat. The downside of central Edmond is getting to highways. It is not bad but I already have a long commute and didn't want to add more time to it. Like any town, there are fast and slow roads through Edmond. It is really not bad.
Deer Creek and Edmond schools are great. Check out this site for report cards for the schools/districts: http://www.schoolreportcard.org

Both areas have good access to shopping and things to do.
Housing is not any more expensive in Edmond than other areas of OKC. We found the build quality and price to be better in Edmond.
This site is a good to search housing in OKC: http://www.centraloklahomaproperties.com/
Good luck looking around!
