More pot smoking kid drama (long)

I've posted at least twice about the kids in my neighborhood who smoke pot in the trees in between my house and my neighbors'. They also cut through our yard to get to the next street.....I may have b!tched about that too. We've asked them to stop nicely and finally started yelling at them to stay out of our yard, but they keep doing it when they think we're not home or whatever. DH's car has been "broken into" twice (he left it unlocked both times) and his ipod and gps were stolen. He also had a tire/rim stolen from the side of our house. We're pretty sure it's kids that are doing it and our guess all along has been that it's the teenagers we're always shooing off our property.

Well, tonight, we're pulling into the driveway after going out to dinner and we see them walking into the trees. We watched from our back deck to see if they were going to walk through our yard, but we could smell the pot and hear them coughing, so DH decided to call the police. The cop must've been really close by because he showed up in about 2 mins. The kids saw him and ran further into the trees toward the back corner of our property, so H went out and flagged the cop down. He told him what was going on, about the car break-ins, etc and the cop said he saw the 4 kids run and drove around to the next street. They hid in the woods and H went into our yard and told them to get lost, hoping the cop would see them on the other side. He never got them. After a few minutes, the cop left and I saw the kids walking down our street....at least they walked all the way around the block and didn't cut back through our yard. Confused

Oh, and when H was telling them to get lost, one of the kids said that he was looking for his wallet, so we assumed the tossed their stash. H went looking after everyone was gone and found a pipe. What do you think we should do with it? Just throw it out?

  • Dude...sell it!

    Just kidding.

I would just run it by the police station and explain the situation.

    Anniversary
  • I'd bring it to the cops. Let them lift some prints off of it. Hopefully the cops catch them at some point.
  • Take it to the cops, and take pictures of them next time.  Little punks!
    Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
  • Definitely give it to the cops!

DH said smash it, reasoning that the cops probably won't run lift prints because of $$ and that the kids probably aren't in the system.

  • Cops generally won't do anything with the pipe.  Around here it's just a ticket (no, I don't have first hand experience).  I'd just throw it out.  If someone finds it, you have the police report.

Yeah, I figured they probably wouldn't do anything with it, so I told H to throw it out. We don't have a police report, but I'm sure if we absolutely needed to, they could look up our call.

  • You can bring it to the cops but they will most likely put it in their evidence closet and nothing will come of it. Because you've handled it, they wouldn't try to lift prints. Sadly around here from something like that they wouldn't even give a ticket...depending on the amounts of course. DH who's a cop takes it, and they destroy it as a department. Its really frustrating, but if they charged someone with a crime for a small amount the courts around here would be swamped.

Same here. They probably wouldn't get in any trouble with the law for it, but I was hoping the cop would catch them and bring them home to their parents to tell them what was going on. The kids are maybe 15. Clearly they don't drive, or they'd probably be doing in their cars/finding somewhere further from home to do it.
