how much to pay sitter?

A gal that works at the daycare is super duper awesome. She's been awesome since day one. She saw I was looking for someone to watch Amelie so she called and offered to help. She'll have Amelie while Owen and I go to the game tomorrow. How much should I pay this gal? She's probably 23 or so. She's got a 3 year old of her own. I'm taking her to her house. I'll be providing everything.

Re: how much to pay sitter?

  • If you are taking her there around 5 & picking her up around 10 (assuming you stay for the whole game), I would probably give her about $50. I would guess the baby goes to sleep around 7-8 & if she goes down for bed easily & stays asleep, about half the evening should be pretty easy babysitting. If she is hard to get to sleep or you think she won't stay asleep I would err on the higher side.

I tend toward over payment b/c I want my babysitters to be ever-available when I call them. Smile

HTH, and have a great time at the game. :)

  • I'd probably do 8-10 bucks an hour...  But, that being said, I've never paid a sitter, so I truly don't know what the going rate is now-a-days...

  • Is she doing it to make money or is she watching Amelie because she would be home anyway and wants snuggle time?

If she does this as a "side-job" I would do $8 or so an hour.  Probably not more because you are taking baby to her house.

If she is doing it for fun, how about $25, or a gift card just to show you appreciate her.

  • I always ask what they charge per hour.

Babysitter said $8.00 an hour and we pay her $10.00

  • I babysit for about 6 hours per time with two brothers 5 and 1, I get about $55.  I honestly think expecting much more than that is ridiculous.
